One year ago this week we hauled a load of milled barn wood from our home in Bentonville to our future barn site at the farm. We unloaded it from a truck into a blank slate of a farm. That day we shot fireworks from an empty field with dreams of building our home and barn. A highlight of that night was a firework getting stuck in the ground so it exploded near us in the field. Scary moment! 🧨 Now we are enjoying our patriotic Fourth of July barn and preparing to move into our new home. A lot has happened on the farm since last July. We are thankful for the journey we traveled this year.

My phone just showed me this picture of our boys 8 years ago today. At the time we were living in our first custom built home with an extremely sloped backyard which meant we could only play outside in the front yard near the road. I dreamed of a day they would have a place to run free. I’m so happy that our family has finally found our forever home where we can put down roots and have plenty of space to enjoy the beautiful pastures and mountains.

Arden + Cookie 🤍
Our Story of how God lead me to our farm:

Arden and I have been dreaming of creating a farm for years with Belted Galloway cows, chickens and a garden. Unfortunately, we live in an HOA controlled neighborhood that forbids farm animals and gives us no freedom for building a fence around our garden to control the deer. This is just one reason we knew we had to find a farm. We couldn’t get the dream of a farm out of our minds. We started searching for our farm several years ago. We were hoping to find a farm with a house already built because we knew it would be easier than building a custom home again. After building two custom homes we didn’t think we were up for the challenge again. We searched the whole state of Arkansas and a little over the state line into Missouri. But we couldn’t find anything that felt like home. Story to be continued in my next post…

House construction update: plumbing and electrical wiring installation started today! We’re creating diagrams in sketchup for the electrician to know the exact location of each sconce and chandelier. Lighting is my love language. I love planning our lighting design. It is like adding jewelry to the house. A vintage style lantern will be installed in the space above the front door porch. Another vibrant rainbow crossed our path this week at the farm as a symbol of hope for the future and a reminder of God’s continued faithfulness. I’ve never seen so many rainbows in my life.

Genesis 9:13
I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.

House update: Windows and doors were delivered to the house. Excited to see them installed this week! The house is almost in the dry. We are meeting with our electrician, plumber, and hvac contractors this week to start the next phase. Taking on the role of our own general contractor has made the process much less stressful. We love getting direct contact with each of our subcontractors and not having a middleman to relay messages. It’s also nice to know the schedule of each step.
