Ever wonder how many hands touch your food before it finally reaches your kitchen table? In the standard grocery store model, the journey is surprisingly long. It usually starts at a massive industrial farm, moves to a packing plant, then to a regional distributor, into a warehouse, and finally onto a delivery truck (for how long?) before sitting on a supermarket shelf for a few days. By the time you buy it, that "fresh" meat has traveled hundreds if not thousands of miles and passed through half a dozen different companies.
We decided to do things differently. When you join our farm to table membership, we completely eliminate the middleman. The supply chain is incredibly simple: it’s just from local farmers to a local butcher shop, and to your front door.
This shorter chain means a few important things for you. First, your food is significantly fresher because it hasn’t spent weeks in a distribution loop. Second, it has a much smaller carbon footprint since it isn’t being hauled across the country. Most importantly, it means every dollar you spend goes directly to the people actually raising the food, rather than being split among corporate stockholders.
By keeping it simple, we can offer you total transparency. You don’t have to wonder who handled your food or where it came from. Shop here: https://store.ortmanfarms.com

You might have noticed beef prices are higher than ever, and it’s frustrating—but here’s the truth: farmers aren’t the ones setting the price.

Rising costs come from feed, fuel, transportation, and market pressures, plus the effects of large corporations and supply chain issues.

We work hard every day to raise healthy, happy cattle, and although there are factors that we cannot change when it comes to pricing, we continue to stand behind our products and prioritize the health and happiness of our animals, while also providing unbeatable service and value to our customers!

It’s no secret that small dairy farms are facing an uphill battle. Between rising industrial costs and a market dominated by massive corporations, many local family farms are disappearing. We’ve felt that pressure too, but instead of giving up, we’ve decided to change the game by shifting to a direct-to-consumer model. We want to bring fresh, pasteurized milk in glass bottles directly to your doorstep.
When you buy milk from a grocery store, it has often been pooled from dozens of farms, processed at high heat to extend shelf life, and sat in plastic for days. Our milk will be different. Because it will come straight from our herd to your home, it will retain a richer flavor and higher nutritional integrity. Plus, those glass bottles aren't just nostalgic; they keep the milk colder, taste cleaner, and help us eliminate the plastic waste and microplastic concerns.
More than the health benefits, this shift is about rebuilding a connection that’s been lost. We want you to know exactly who produced your food and how the cows were treated. By joining us, you aren't just buying a gallon of milk; you’re ensuring that a local farm survives and that our community remains a place where local agriculture can actually thrive. Before we can officially open our micro-creamery, we need the help of the community to build out our delivery routes, so we know our milk will have a home when the time comes. We can’t wait to share a bit of the farm with you. Join us here: https://join.ortmanfarms
