It’s the one year anniversary of the barn collapse, and while there is no desire to repeat that experience - what heartbreak, heartache, logistical nightmare, financial catastrophe - looking back on the last year, what came next was miraculous, was abundance and kindness beggaring belief and an outpouring of care and love from our community. That love took the shape of a new barn that is almost too beautiful for words, even as we take our sweet time to finish the details (endless thanks to and their incredible crew), fundraising from our farming community near and far, meals and encouragement and continued support through eating the food we grow. (Obligatory: summer veg and meat CSAs are open for registration, and we would be honored to feed you again this year.)
The other wonder of this last year has been the hard reset that this loss catalyzed. Losing the locus of process and system on the farm meant rethinking every step we take, the why behind every movement. This winter our long wished for goal of more rest, returning to dancing and singing and being social and spending less time working and more with family, friends and loved ones, playing and making and being in better balance with all the doing has come closer to reality. We’re pausing more to find beauty, to enjoy the incredible and hard task of parenting a toddler, to love our work and our days and our beloved community more fully. There’s a deep well of gratitude here for what this day brought to fruition. Thank you to each and every one of you that had any part in helping pull us forward into this moment; thank you, thank you, thank you.
