We had a very cool calf born today—our first Angus × Charolais cross! He’s a bull calf, and we’re hoping to raise him up and eventually offer him for sale as a breeding bull. We’re excited to see how he develops!

Getting our largest hay field ready for winter wheat before reseeding alfalfa next spring. Always planning for the next crop!

It’s always a little strange for me to be doing something in a large tractor that isn’t corn or soybean related!

We are currently reworking and reseeding our largest hay field. This year, we planted it in pearl millet to give the field a year without alfalfa. Pearl millet is an annual crop that grows quickly and produces a lot of tonnage.

Now that we’ve cut the millet for hay, I’m working the field up to plant winter wheat. The wheat will serve as a cover crop throughout the winter, helping hold the soil in place and protect it from erosion.

In the spring, if conditions are right, we plan to cut and bale the wheat. We’ll wrap the bales, giving us some excellent feed and allowing us to get a head start on hay season!

After that, we’ll reseed the field with alfalfa. Hopefully, we’ll get one cutting off the new stand in 2027.

From there, the goal is to maintain a healthy, productive alfalfa stand for the next five years!

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any good pictures because we were so busy! In just one day, we raked, baled, relocated, and wrapped 106 bales. A big thank you to my family for all the help!

Our cattle are 100% farm-raised from birth! They are raised on pasture with hay, free-choice mineral, and corn.

🥩 What does “grain-finished” beef really mean?

Some people hear grain-finished and assume that means the animal eats nothing but grain. That’s not always the case.

Here’s how we raise the cattle that we finish for our freezer beef:

• During the grazing season, they have access to a full pasture with all the grass they want.

• During the winter, they’re provided quality hay.

• They also have access to a free-choice protein tub and mineral.

• Corn is offered free-choice as well. They can come and go and eat it whenever they want. Most of the time, they’ll eat corn twice a day—once in the morning and again in the evening. The rest of their day is spent relaxing and grazing.

• one thing I believe is extremely important: fresh, clean water at all times.

To us, grain-finished doesn’t mean an animal standing around eating nothing but corn. Our cattle still get to do what cattle naturally do—graze pasture, eat forage, and relax—while having grain available to help them finish.

We are extremely excited to announce the arrival of our first calf of the 2026 season!

We are now accepting orders for freezer beef, replacement heifers, and bulls.

If you’re interested in purchasing a bull, let us know as soon as possible so you can choose the one that best fits your operation.

We will also have a small group of replacement heifers available for sale in the spring of 2027.

The remaining cattle will be sold as whole, half, and quarter beef. This group of freezer beef will be ready for the winter of 2027.
