Don't miss this wonderful Pasture Planting workshop coming up next week Wednesday!

Do you want beautiful, green productive pastures? Do you want to feed less hay? Whether you have five or 50 acres - whether you have horses, cattle, sheep, goats or other livestock, the Pasture Planting and Renovation Workshop will set you up for success. Kitsap Conservation District is excited to partner with local farmers and WSU-Extension to host this workshop on May 6th at Woodpecker Hill Farm in Poulsbo, WA.

This hands-on workshop will include lots of many tips, tools and resources including:
- What are the benefits of a well-managed pasture?
- Do I want to seed a new pasture or renovate an existing pasture?
- What kind of equipment do I need to plant or renovate pasture?
- What type of forage/grasses should I plant for different kinds of livestock?
- How much fertilizer and other amendments should I use?
- What can soil testing tell me about my pastures?
- How do I keep my pastures healthy and productive for a long time?

A cyanobacteria warning has been issued for Kitsap Lake. Avoid all contact with the water in Kitsap Lake due to potentially toxic cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae.

There are many different types of cyanobacteria and not all blooms are toxic. The cyanobacteria in Kitsap Lake are known to produce toxins.

Because cyanobacteria can make people sick and can kill animals please:

Avoid all contact with the lake water until further notice. This means no swimming, wading, or types of water play where water could be swallowed or get into your mouth, nose or eyes.

Avoid drinking lake water. If you use lake water for drinking water, use bottled water until further notice.

Keep pets and livestock out of the lake.

Avoid eating fish caught during the cyanobacteria bloom.

Rinse boats and trailers thoroughly before going to another lake.

No illnesses have been reported to the Health District at this time.
