Have you seen an egg like this before?!
We just got a new flock of hens we are calling our "Dorothy Flock". They came from Kansas and their barn was damaged by a tornado!! Stressful situations like that (plus the move from there to our farm in Texas) can cause hens to hold in their eggs. This leads to extra calcium deposits on the shell, often forming in these cool bullseye-like patterns. They are perfectly normal on the inside, and our kids actually think they are the prettiest eggs of all!
We were worried people would think something was wrong with them so we used to just eat these unusual eggs ourselves or give them to friends and family. But with this flock we have so many we decided to reach out to Misfits Market to see if they'd be interested in making them available to their customers, and they were!
So, if you happen to buy our eggs from Misfits and see some weird ones like these, now you know what's up, and know it was probably our special Dorothy hens that laid them! π
