Apple Annie

Apple Annie A small apple orchard, off the beaten path Apple Annie is a small orchard with 270 trees, off the beaten track, a quiet and friendly place for a family outing.

Whether you pick your own apples or buy apples already picked, you are welcome to take your time, walk around the orchard, picnic if you want, or just sit and relax. In the fall we offer low-spray apples (pick your own or picked by us), unpasteurized cider, fall vegetables, jams and jellies from our own produce, pies, cider donuts and baked goods. Our goal is a sound, healthy, tasty apple, not an

apple with an unblemished complexion; therefore we use as little as possible of the least toxic chemicals we know of in spraying. We believe that the flavor of an apple, or any other food, is enhanced by connection with the place where it was grown, and we hope that you will feel that connection here. Nearly everything we sell in the store is made here, as much as possible from our own produce, and we sell only here at the orchard and at a few local outlets.

Some photos from the Coverts project training that I (Emma) attended last week. Seriously, such a treat to participate! This 3 day program is led by UNH Extension wildlife and forestry specialists and is a deep dive into wildlife habitat, forest management, conservation and community outreach. The 25 participants then commit to volunteering 40 hours each towards those initiatives this year. Felt like I was back at university / summer camp and home now with renewed focus and energy for stewardship at Apple Annie and conservation projects in Brentwood. Thank you 🌱

It’s a light bloom year at Apple Annie and we’re still unsure how many blossoms will become apples due to the April frost, but this showstopper of a crab apple never fails to disappoint.

Apple buds in our little orchard are between half inch green and tight cluster stages right now. Buds at this stage start to incur damage at 27F. Yesterday morning we woke up to 26F - cold, but not completely terrible. This morning? 18F. Yikes!

So, we dissect some buds to assess the damage and do our best to help the surviving buds make it through the rest of the Spring.

We said goodbye to our sweet girl, Manzana, this week. She loved and lived all her days to the fullest, right up to the very end. On her last morning, we walked through the orchard in the most beautiful golden morning sun. We had the best 13 years with her and we love and miss her. ā¤ļø

2025 at Apple Annie; a great year for multigenerational gardening, baseball in the orchard, a new barn floor, a freshly stained house and barn, moving compost by the bucketful, Spring greens, Freedom and Mutsu apples, preschool field trips, fresh cider and cider donuts, reunions and celebrations, efficient apple harvest, foosball, flower sprinkle, picking up drops with the ā€œgarden weaselā€, greenhouse gardening, happy hour in the barn, and the most wonderful community of apple pickers who visit us year after year. We are grateful for it all. ✨
