Last week one our sheep dogs got out of the fence chasing a coyote. He had been gone three days. It was so stressful on the other dogs, that they to we’re getting out looking for him. Late yesterday afternoon we received a call from a young man about a mile down the road saying he had “sea bass”. We rushed over there and reunited him with the other dogs and his favorite person Wyatt. Hopefully things will begin to settle down not that all is well. ❤️

Hey y’all, starting in August Rooster Head Farms will be operating under a new name. French Broad Sheep Company. We have decided as a family to focus on our sheep operation going forward. So if you’ll hop over to French Broad Sheep Company’s instagram page and show some love we would really appreciate it. Also starting in mid August we will be selling 100% grass-fed lamb as a 10 pound box of ground lamb. With additional cuts planned for the future. We thank you for your continued support and we can’t wait to serve you. Jared Edens

Went to sell some lambs at the WNC Regional Livestock Center yesterday and was told to only come home with a check. However I tried my best to bring these dudes home. Jacqui Edens would have murdered me. Maybe next time. Also the price for lamb is hot right now.

Our Story

At Rooster Head we are a veteran owned small farm, focusing on sustainable farming practices that have been lost over the decades. A few years ago we decided as a family that we wanted to do something positive about the ways we ate. We were tired of going to the grocery store and buying bland, tasteless food. We were also concerned about the welfare of the animals. Here at Rooster Head we concentrate of animal husbandry and land management first and foremost. If the animals aren’t living up to their God given potential then we as a society have failed them. We believe that just because we grow food, doesn’t mean that the animals have to be caged, or have their natural instincts suppressed. All our livestock is raised on pasture. We care for the pasture so that the ground is always producing the most nutrient dense forage for our livestock. With out the use of commercial fertilizers of course.

We wish you would come visit sometime. We would love to show you around the farm and explain why we do the things that we do. Nothing in life is more important then your health and your families health. We hope that visiting the farm, and enjoying some of our chicken you to will realize that small scale sustainable farming is the right direction that we all need to be heading.
