Year 2 of the Adopt-A-Green-Space meadow.

This area was planted from seed with little bluestem, Virginia wildrye, coreopsis, black-eyed Susan, mountain mint, asters, goldenrod, milkweed, native beardtongues, and other Appalachian meadow species.

Right now you’re mostly seeing the coreopsis lanceolata in bloom, but later this year the black-eyed Susans and many of the other species should start to emerge as well.

You can also see black gum, paw paw, and itea throughout the meadow.

This Arbor Day we gave away pure American chestnut seedlings grown from nuts. 🌰🌳

These are wild-type trees—the same genetics as the original American chestnuts before the blight. They are not blight resistant, and are being shared to help establish future “mother trees” for restoration work.

When blight-resistant American chestnuts (such as the SUNY-ESF D54 line) become available, these trees are intended to be part of controlled cross-pollination efforts supporting long-term restoration.

We’re now officially recognized as a Certified Wildlife Habitat 🌿

We’ve been slowly working behind the scenes — pulling invasives, planting natives, adding trees, thinking long-term about how this land functions — not just how it looks.

There’s still a lot to do. But we’re committed to making this space better every year.

We’re launching our Native Plant Exchange and welcoming:
✂️ Cuttings 🌱 Live stakes 🌾 Seeds

If you’re dropping something off, please label with both the common name and scientific name so we can keep everything organized and truly native!

🚫 Native plants only, please (no cultivars or non-natives)

🏷️ We’ll also have seedlings, small plants, and shrubs in this same space when it warms up — stay tuned!

📚🌱 And we’re starting a Native Seed Library — coming soon!

📸 Tag us on social media when you drop something off, and we’ll repost your contributions to share the plant love!

Our Norway spruce is ready for some holiday magic! 🎄💫
From now until the Winter Market on December 13 presented by , kids are invited to bring an ornament, decorate the tree, and help us build a collection we’ll grow year after year.
Each ornament earns a FREE kids hot chocolate or steamer! 🎁

Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃

We recently met with the Mayor, City Manager, and Planning Department to discuss a few options currently on the table. I truly appreciate how quickly they made the time to meet with us and the thoughtful outreach from members of City Council.

I’m confident we can come up with a positive solution that meets all requirements and works for everyone. There will not be public comment at the December 1st meeting, but there will be an opportunity to speak at the December 15th meeting. In the meantime, we encourage anyone who wants to share their thoughts to reach out directly to the Mayor or City Council.
