Riders coming up the ranks, if there’s one piece of advice I can give you it’s the importance of finding a dedicated coach. Find someone who will always be in your corner, no matter what. It becomes pretty important when you commit to a “got it, lost it, got it, lost it” kinda journey, such as the journey of dressage. I’m so appreciative for my relationship with the two wonderful humans hidden in the corner here, Joe and . I can’t begin to express my gratitude for the thousands of hours Joe has dedicated to my education 🙏
Fellow followers, is there anyone “hidden” in your corner whom you would like to recognize?

Too much fun! Featuring Quinn, Rosie, and Violet
We interrupt our regularly scheduled dressage training ride to bring you a little joy and appreciation for the crazy amount of rain we have been getting.
Living in a climate like this, we’ve gotta find reasons to enjoy the rain.
Note: although the sky appears to be changing from light to dark, I promise that there was no thunder or lightning during the making of this video🤠

🩶Happy birthday to my good friend and dance partner 🩶
Quinn, you show up 8 days a week with 110% even when I can’t give 100% . You are always ready to go because hard work and forward are your jam, and I love that about you . I learn so much from you because you are a communicator and you have this won’t-give-up resilience that allows me to learn and repeat , learn and repeat (more than one more time!) until we get it. Thank you for demonstrating true partnership to me. How lucky I am to have a horse who is all-in (with me) on this journey

Thank you to .a.kovach and Iron Horse Farm for breeding her and letting me buy her 🩶

Never underestimate the value of momentarily giving the reins. Even a give smaller than pictured here helps dissipate tension that builds up in our horses’ toplines.
For a momentary release to work properly :
First, I ask myself if my outside rein connection is the result of my horse ridden round from behind into a steady offering outside rein. If this is true, momentary giving will amplify relaxation and will not result in a loss of connection. If a momentary release does result in a loss of connection, this is a tell that I need to go back and assess the overall quality of my outside rein connection and of my back-to-front riding .
On the other hand, my horse might pull down when I release. When this happens, I know two things: I need to put my leg on to keep her hind legs stepping into the contact and I to need firmer engagement of my postural muscles.
We have all heard the description of our arms as extensions of the reins. We can experience this as a literal feeling when we are secure enough in our own self-carriage that we are really connecting to each rein with our shoulder first. When your arm really is acting as just an extension of the rein into your shoulder, momentary releases enhance our self-carriage as well as our horses

Congratulations to Morante, now Monty, and on finding one another ! And thank you to Karen and for making the long trek from Colorado out here to meet him !! What a breathe of fresh air it was watching Sue and Karen attend to the relaxation over his topline, softeness in the connection, and quality of communication before moving on to easily schooling thru the movements. Karen and Monty were flowing and glowing the whole time 🌟 And even continued to glow after the ride, as you can see in this picture 🥰 The value Sue and Karen place on relaxation and partnership is clear . Every horse deserves to be with people with priorities such as these , this is what keeps horses happy and healthy 🙌 I am beyond excited to watch Karen and Monty’s partnership grow. Between treats and quiet moments together in the barn, Karen and Monty will finish her Bronze, move on to Silver, and eventually tackle USDF Gold🥉🥈🥇
