Life hack: always balance something cheap with something expensive
Example: I like feeding frozen marshmallows (cheap) to my dressage horse (expensive)
Sound on! They crunch like carrots!!

Dressage isn’t just horse development, it’s self development! So many life lessons we learn while spending years perfecting putting our horse on the bit. So many in fact, that I wrote a blog about it!

This horse came into our barn in April 2025 with a show record through 1st level and a good vetting. He was sold in May 2026 with a show record through Prix St George and a great! vetting. The same veterinarian performed both exams. While he was in our barn he received zero injections, zero monthly maintenance.

What he did receive is simply the right training, the right way, at the right time, for the right reason. And he gained soundness while also developing into a happy! FEI horse.

This is what a thoughtful program can do for your horse. Biomechanically founded, artistically cultivated, individually tailored. The horse always comes first. Period. No matter what. Period. And everyone can win, truly.

Remembering the beginnings of 💚

Daily, dressage is a practice. Progress happens weekly when we’re lucky, but more often monthly.
Being mindful about our daily practice of dressage cultivates this monthly progression. Just as important, it helps us keep the work in perspective.
Mindfulness safeguards against unrealistic expectations that lead to feelings of failure.
Mindfulness allows us to appreciate the honest daily efforts of both ourselves and our horses.
Mindfulness reminds us to have compassion for our horses and ourselves in this most difficult work.

I feel this heat pushes us to be more effective riders. Waste no strides in the brutal sun!
Happy 4th all !! Stay safe, find a way for you and your horse to cool off. And for the animals’ sakes, please find a way to have fun without making too much noise 🙉

The fact is people connect more to imperfection than they do to flawless form. Why? Because it’s real ! Do you have enough courage to do your very best , work your very hardest, in front of God and everyone, and still fail to execute whatever it is that the end polished product is supposed to be?
Your horse will teach you how

I want my basic position in the saddle to allow uphill motion through and disallow downhill motion. I start with my lower back and hips open , relaxed , and seeking the ground beneath me . This position allows uphill motion through . When I need to disallow downhill motion, I add half halts . For me, half halts work best when I simply use my abdominals to anchor my seat while keeping my hand and torso stationary (no change) . My goal is to sit against my horses downhill motion while keeping enough freedom/relaxation in my seat to allow the uphill motion to still come through. The beauty is, this anchoring of my center of gravity into my haunches shifts my horse’s balance towards her haunches too!

There’s a big difference between knowing/understanding how to reach the next level in your riding, and actually being able to execute it. There’s knowing in your mind, which is head knowledge. And then there’s knowing in your body, owning a reproducible feeling. Time with your instructor helps you gain head knowledge and points you in the direction of feel, important first steps. It is only through repeating focused moments with your horse that you can learn to feel your way to the future of your riding
