The 6 Farms that contributed to the 6Farm Sock Project:
Clear Spring Farm
(2 lbs yak fiber and 16 lbs Leicester Longwool)
Melodee and Hugh Smith Welch, MN
Yaks produce a luxurious fiber that is 30% warmer than wool, lanolin free and 1.6X more breathable than cashmere.

Frosty Acres Alpacas
(6.75 lbs Huacaya Alpaca) Jessica Anderson
Bricelyn, MN
Huacaya Alpaca fiber features soft, warm, fluffy fiber with crimp.

Lykkeligsted Farm
(5 lbs. Angora Goat Mohair) Jennifer Hawkins Welch, MN
Angora fiber, Mohair, is known for its luster, durability, length and versatility.

Prairie Plum
(9 lbs Southdown Babydoll x Finn)
Sue Wiegrefe Mable, MN
Many generations of breeding and selection have resulted in a wool that gets its “cushiness” and resistance from felting from the Babydolls and the sheen, greater fiber length and softness from the Finns.

Red Gate Farm Alpacas
(11.6 lbs Suri Alpaca)
Terri and Kraig Quamme Dundas, MN
The national champion Suri Alpacas on this farm are draped in long, lustrous, silky locks.

Windswept Hill Farm & Studio
(16 lbs. Leicester Longwool) Wendy and Bill Wustenberg Farmington, MN
This farm is helping to save this gentle British breed and their distinctive, spiraling, strong and lustrous wool with other Livestock Conservancy farms.
Socks are $28 per pair, purchase at https://northstarfarmtour.org

Fiber enthusiasts who frequent regional festivals seek Jessica Anderson out for the ultra-soft
Huacaya Alpaca she processes into natural and hand-dyed yarns and knit products. Her fascination with Alpaca led to the purchase of two females in 2008. They became extremely sociable under her kind and dedicated care in their first home in Frost, MN. As each of the cria were born over the past 11 years the Frosty Acres herd grew along with her reputation as an approachable, successful teacher of knitting and dyeing. The expanding interests of consumers for information about direct purchasing from farms, understanding about fiber and handcrafting, and agri-tourism activities led to Jessica’s involvement as a founder of North Star Farm tour. She was a driver behind the Farm2Fashion Project and donated a significant amount of alpaca fiber to the 2019 Limited-Edition North Star Farm Tour Sock Project. This year the 17 alpacas, cats and dogs moved to a new farm in Bricelyn where the first agri-tourism events have already been held. Crowd-pleasers Sven, Kristof and Charlie will travel to Windswept Hill Farm for this year’s tour and to attend the private party for the Farm2Fashion Project reveal with the designers, models, and founder of Black Fashion Week.

Products: hand dyed yarn, natural colored yarn, hand knit mittens and socks available for sale. Also, Limited-Edition North Star Farm Tour Socks.
