Talk about spoiled! I have been working on the goat barn and mucking it out all day (only got 1/3 done in the main area), but I come into the fresh milled warm chocolate chip cookies and a glass of raw goats milk!

Yummy and deeply nutritious!

Did I mention how spoiled I am? My sweet momma is the best!

As with any food, if it is done correctly, it is safe. If it is not done correctly, people get sick... at best.

This video is an amazing interview with Mark McAfee, the largest true raw milk producer in the US.

While I do goats and got milk, which is healthier than cows milk, much of what Mr. McAfee says is 100% spot on for any raw milk. But the big point of this video is how the government is trying to shut down free market access to raw milk.

Here in the state of Oklahoma, we have just now gotten the "right" to advertise our raw milk. And it has always been legal for on farm pick up only. In other states, you can buy it in the grocery store right next to the pasteurized stuff (Washington State). Or you have to jump through major hoops to do a herd share.

The reason I am sharing this video is because I encourage you to take notes on what to ask your raw milk farmer to vet them properly. But also so you can feel more comfortable drinking raw milk from a good farmer!

If you want to keep access to raw milk, we will need to get in the fight. Us farmers cannot fight alone!

So get educated, find a local farmer you can buy from, and help us protect access to food!

This is why I was out of pocket yesterday!

Momma, my sister, and I did morning chores and headed up to Alva Oklahoma to pick up, and geek out, over 4 Generations Organic farm and wheat!

This farm, out in northwest Oklahoma, is both organic and regenerative in how it approaches growing wheat. So many cool things this farm is doing right! We can’t wait to finish the wheat berries we have on hand and switch all of our hard red and hard white berries to those from this farm!

Sarah, the delightful blond in the picture, answered all of our questions, spent time with us, gave us goody bags, and loaded our 5 buckets of berries for us.

The whole trip took just under 10 hours and I drove all 343 miles. The reason it took that much time was because Alva is momma’s old stomping ground. Where she spent some time as a child and also high school and college. So we got to go see houses, eat at the park, and just stroll down memory lane with momma!

It was a great day! But we are tired and playing catching up today!

Don’t worry, it is all good family things!

What a blessing it is to be exhausted by prayers getting answered.

These last few weeks have been… hard. I have cried a lot. Which is normal in homesteading/farming.

My hatch rate for my chickens is horrible, think 4 out of 21 eggs and 1 out of 14. My dogs attacked each other and we had an emergency vet bill. I had to put down a sick chicken I had been working on for a month. And kidding season started off with a single still birth. Plus that garden is still not fully put in. And the shed is still not done.

But despite all of that, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. Thankful that it has not been worse.

Thankful for the blessing of watching a doe come into milk and seeing all of the changes I normally miss because the kids do all of the milking! Plus the snuggles with Miss Sunggles!

Thankful I still have both my dogs to cuddle with and love on. And that the vet bill was not higher.

Thankful for the baby chicks born and I know that God still answered my prayer in gifting me those babies (I am just a bit greedy and wanted more).

While I have told God I am tried of learning and would like a break, I am still thankful to have learned those lessons (but would still like a break).

But most of all, I am thankful for all of the times God has answered my prayer to teach me to farm! As someone who was not raised raising their food, God is an amazing teacher and has also given me amazing teachers!

True healing food takes time. You either pay for it with your time or you pay someone else for theirs.

Pick how you pay!

The more I learn, keep in mind I am working on becoming a board certified naturopathic doctor, the more I am committed to doing as much as I can for my own food. Which means I pay for a lot of things in my time.

But when I can’t do something, either because of no time or because I physically can’t, I want to invest in my health by paying someone else for their time, expertise, and equipment. Both to have access but also to encourage them to keep going!

If you want to stay shackled to the store, that is fine. But I am trying to figure out ways to go directly to the farm or at least limit how many steps between me and the farmer.

It is always a good morning when Jason and Devona Hardaway stop by to talk politics, show off their sweet baby, and get me some more signs to support people that can actually help Oklahoma!

Well, I can’t figure out plumbing to connect my two 275 gallon water totes for the water… but I can figure out how to rig up a funnel, use a sump pump, and transfer the water from one to the other.

We have, we pray, some rain coming in this weekend. So I am trying to get all rain water transferred over to longer term storage so I can collect more.

Right now, it is just being used for the garden. Animals get filtered tap water. But since we are in a drought, I need to collect as much rain as I can!
