CHANNING DAUGHTERS WINERY
Long Island, NY is home to scores of wineries, most on the semi-rural North Fork, where we recently visited seven wineries [stay tuned to VinoDuo.com.] But the swanky South Fork, aka The Hamptons, boasts several excellent wineries, including Channing Daughters, which we feature today.
Channing Daughters was founded by Walter Channing in 1982. Today, under the ownership of Larry Perrine, Allison Dubin, and Christopher Tracy, the winery produces about 11,000 cases, including blends with such esoteric grapes as Muscat Ottonel, Blaufrankisch, and Lagrein.
We enjoyed three wine flights and had the chance to chat with winemaker/partner Christopher Tracy.
FAVORITE WINES
🍷 Scuttlehole Chardonnay 2021. $20
Lovely pale blonde; crisp, with some minerality [unoaked!]; apples and pears, with a hint of citrus. “Any white wine drinker would love this,” Lisa wrote.
🍷Sculpture Garden 2019. $30
Gary called this blend of Merlot [91%,] Teroldego [6%,] and Blaufrankisch [3%] “a perfect crowd pleaser.” Black fruit compote with brandy overtones on the nose, dusty black cherry flavors, with notes of caramelized brown sugar [without the sweetness;] Velvety tannins.
