Chopping down these thistles by hand is super satisfying! I don’t think I could do all 47 acres by hand but the 2-3 acres of sheep pasture is doable.

Meet Spock and Scottie, our newest ram lambs! Spice, their mama, needed assistance lambing for her first two births. But this year she lambed her two boys all on her own!

One of the not-as-fun but still satisfying parts of having livestock is harvesting them. We’re about to have a serious cold snap and these animals were, in my experience, the most likely to suffer greatly (I.e., die) in that weather. So rather than putting them through that nasty death and also losing out on the meat that I’d worked hard to produce, I made today butcher day. All of these animals were hatched on the farm and I’d say they had a great life, roaming the poultry yard, protected by big dogs, and if they only have one bad day I’d call this a success.
