Today, one of our valued clients learned first hand that you can't trust just anyone with your water conditioning. We were called initially for a second opinion after one of our local competitors who boasts about 60 plus years in business, failed to properly diagnose a simple pressure issue, and charged the client for a repair that was not related to the issue. We quickly provided a free and accurate diagnosis, determining that their KDF system needed a rebed and that the resin was degraded and clogged. When we arrived to perform the service, our client made us aware that the treatment system was bypassing to drain while in service. We quoted a rebuild of the existing control valve, and upon tearing down the valve we discovered the KDF control was clogged solid with calcite from the neutralizer which ultimately chipped the finish on the piston and destroyed the seals in the spacer stack. Our competitors had not installed an upper screen on the neutralizer, and filled the tank too quickly when back washing the system from the unnecessary rebed they performed, which ejected calcite into the KDF control when the water was running. Our client called us for a 2nd opinion after one of our competitors quoted the client a number to make this repair that they felt uncomfortable with. We quoted the repair, and according to our client, it was substantially less than our competitor's quote. We jumped into action, cutting out the existing fl**ge that was 2" below the finished floor surface. We then adapted some abs fittings and installed a new fl**ge with a stainless steel bay ring and secured it to the floor with some coated fasteners. We finished the job off by reinstalling the existing toilet and making sure everything is working properly. Our client is having substantial structural work done to their home and needed a solution to keep the water on while the foundation is replaced. We discussed some options and ultimately decided to relocate the bladder tank to a portion of the basement where foundation repairs were already completed. We located and then rerouted the well line and outgoing power to a suitable location about 45' away from the current location, and pulled the existing power back to the new location. Our client reached out to us regarding low water pressure and difficulty using their irrigation and plumbing fixtures.
We were able to determine that the pump was not making adequate pressure or flow to sustain running water. We dismantled the existing pump and found that electrical tape used to hold the wire to the drop line had come off and gotten wrapped around the pump shaft and was blocking the vanes of the pump impeller. The tape also was lodged in the motor seal and caused a hard spot to develop on the motor. We provided several options to resolve the issue, and ultimately our client opted to have us install a vfd system to ensure adequate flow and pressure for their irrigation and all other plumbing fixtures.
