August 6, 1955 our father and grandparents immigrated to the United States from the city of Avellino in the Campania region of Italy. Short of 10 years after their arrival, Giovanni and Assunta Terraglia alongside their sons Salvatore and Luigi opened their first restaurant. On June 17th 1965 a dream became reality and a long history of family and food ensued. On that day in 1965 our family opened Conca D’oro restaurant on Front Street in Plainfield. What was a small storefront pizzeria morphed into a restaurant where families came to gather whether it be a Friday night tradition or a special occasion, the Conca D’oro is where you went not just for a great meal, but to treated like family. Our father Luigi (“Louie” to some) and our Zio Salvatore ran a kitchen that was admired by other chefs. They were tough, but always full of love and compassion and that translated to their food. Many remember our Nonna Assunta standing guard at the kitchen door, making sure that everything that left the kitchen was done right.
Fast forward to June 11, 1991 when the family opened Luna Rossa in the Pluckemin section of Bedminster. The traditions of family and food continued, this time with the next generation of Terraglia’s which included two of Luigi’s children Daniela and Luigi at their father and uncles side. Under the guidance of their parents, Lou & Charlene, they learned every aspect of the business. After over 30 years at Luna Rossa it was time for the family to hang up their aprons…for a short time. In the years that followed the family continued to cater to loyal customers that just yearned for the taste of the food, food that spoke of their history. Come Fall of 2024 Daniela and Luigi, under the continued guidance and the support of their parents prepared to open Luigi’s Deli & Italian Market. On December 24,2024 the next generation opened the doors to the next chapter of this incredible story.
