For the bees, goldenrod marks the last major nectar flow of the year. The honey that bees make from goldenrod has a much different flavor than that of early or mid summer honey. Some say it has a mildly spicy flavor. Additionally, the color can be quite a bit darker than spring honey, almost as dark as maple syrup.

We plan to process our last honey crop of the year after Labor Day and are very excited to taste what the bees have been foraging!

This is also a busy time of year for the beekeeper as it's important to balance the bee's resources going into winter. When processing our honey we need to make sure the bees have enough food to get through the winter. If they need extra help we'll feed sucrose syrup to bulk up their colonies and provide the much needed carbohydrates to be able to get through the long Michigan winter.

Honey bees use their sense of smell to communicate within the hive, and to recognise different types of flowers when looking for food.

Hi everyone and welcome to our page! It’s been a long-time coming and we’re excited to announce the inception of our family homestead!

We pride ourselves in the fact that our produce is locally grown and sourced, most of which is reseeded heirlooms. Additionally, all of our produce is naturally grown without pesticides.

In the near future will be providing:

Fresh produce
Pickled and canned produce
Eggs (duck and chicken)
Honey and honey products (balms, etc.)
