Happy Thursday night! It was a beautiful day for giving chickens a spa day! The chickens loved it, of course! They really did and they especially like the blow dryer! Another couple groups of chickens will be off to their new homes tomorrow! Some of our beautiful black copper Marans roosters went home withMiriam Rosenbohm and Fred today šŸ˜Š Enjoy!

Also friends, please, for the love of goodness, be respectful of the time and energy put into getting birds ready to go to their new homes and let us know if you change your mind and will not be coming to pick up your order! The person who requested the meat birds did not show up after I stayed up late sorting and moving birds to the main barn for easy pick up . I barely have time to even schedule to meet with people to pick up their orders in my own barnyard . I Definitely donā€™t have time to do things for no reason. Im still excited to share my farm with others and all of the neat breeds of birds iā€™ve been working on raising over the last 15 years so please donā€™t take the fun out of it.

Thank you so much to Alyssa Travis Wheat and family for all the awesome help and lending of your tools to help with butchering our meat birds today ! Great time spent together and it turned out to be a beautiful day šŸ„° The kids were super impressed with the eggs we found inside the hens ( shown in one of the pictures ) and yes not all the birds processed were huge . lol some are a bit scrawny but its still meat in the freezer

Is there anybody thatā€™s interested in a Breed of meat bird chickens that you can hatch and produce more of your own? Itā€™s actually across of several different breeds of chickens, but they grow quickly and I had very good luck getting them to lay and was able to hatch a bunch of offspring. We are getting ready to process the ones that are up to weight tomorrow and then I have a few that Iā€™m keeping back for my own breeding program, but there should still be a few left if someone else wanted to purchase them to get their own self sustainable meat program goingšŸ˜Š I know itā€™s a strange thing to be excited about, but I was really excited that this project was successful and Iā€™m excited to share. Iā€™ve also made a couple posts about letting go of some of our fancier breed laying hens recently so if you wanted some of all of the above, Iā€™m sure we can set up a pick up time . our farm is located in Brimfield Illinois send us a p.m. if youā€™re interested

This year with me (Tasha ) making a very large change and stepping away from taking care of kids and the farm full-time and working outside the farm full-time it has made it increasingly hard to get the animals that people are interested in purchasing into the loving arms of their new families. With that being said, we have a large number of chickens that we are planning on sending to their new homes this fall if we can figure out how to make that happen so a tentative idea that I had if we have enough people interested is that I will post the chickens that I have available. There will be adults and some juveniles so we could get it sorted out much like I have done in previous years with ordering baby chickens and then just take one day this fall and set it aside for all chickens to be picked up and you sign up for an appointment slot and that is when you pick up your chickens. Iā€™m considering kind of having some open house activities wherethereā€™s a few animals available for petting zoo maybe pony rides maybe some of the things that we make and sell here on the farm be available just depending on if I can get all of that done, but the main point is are there still people looking for chickens to add to their flock before winter? We mainly have fancier breed chickens. ļæ¼ The genetics that we have here are non-hatchery and are priced as such and depending on the breed I have been working on them here on my farm from anywhere for 5 to 15 years. They either have fancy feathers or lay different egg colors and then we did add a reproducible meat Birds this year that I will have some available to sell. They are feathered out, not yet the age of Butcher but they would be great for purchase so that next spring, you can create your own baby meat birds. Please comment below if generally interested or if specifically interested send the farm a pm . It will be the type of situation where you need to pay a deposit to set the animals aside for yourself and then when we choose the pick up day that will be the time that I can set aside to meet with people due to the craziness of our schedule this year . We also have one meat ram available ( 8 weeks old the Fourth of July ) and some Flemish giant adults. ļæ¼ļæ¼

Chicken breeds we raise (iā€™m not sure at this point in time whether it is adults or juveniles of the specific breeds that I have this is just a post to gauge interest. )

Golden cuckoo Marans
Bļæ¼lack copper Marans ( darker egg laying genetics than what you just get from a hatchery ) Roosters available from extremely dark laying lines .
Cream crested legbars
Buff silkies
Mixed color and feather type silkie pen
Partridge and blue partridge Brahma
Isabel Brahma
Quail : jumbo and celadon genetics mixed in

Are there any high school students or just people in general looking for a little bit of work that would want to do some work cleaning out the barn to help get it ready for winter or if we can get it done in time perhaps do open house this fall? It seems like every year it gets harder and harder to find people willing to do work like putting hay up or cleaning stalls. I mean my own kids are so busy at this time of year they donā€™t even really have the option to be the ones to do it. Speaking of hay thatā€™s another thing that I could use some help with is having a couple people kind of on standby for when we get a rack of hay to store up in our barn loft we use And elevator thing to send it up there so we usually need a crew of about six people most of which I can make up with my own family, but we could use an extra hand or two . At least itā€™s not that super hot time of year where itā€™s miserable to be up there ! Send our farm at p.m. if you are interested in some work or know someone that might be . Iā€™m not asking you to work for free. Would also be a possibility for people to earn time to spend with our horses. If you prefer that form of payment . Our farm is located outside of Brimfield Illinois.

UPDATE: for anybody that I spoke to about coming out this Tuesday, I was able to handle most of the work that I was wanting to get done myself over the weekend . there is still going to be some help needed, but likely not this week and we still probably could use helpers that are able to help stack hay in a barn.

The sweet filly is really loving making friends with her human family ! She loves being scratched, brushed and giving kisses ! Athena is a very protective and watchful mama but she knows we are friends so she lets us in to visit . We are still working on both the fillyā€™s barn name and her registered name. I think I know her barn name ā€¦we will see! Someone gave me a good idea this week .

Well, this tired lady is off to bed so I can get up and work third shift again, but I got Mommaā™„ļø and New baby filly settled into the stall in the barn! She has one blue eye and is absolutely perfect
