We are packing up the trailer and heading south! If your freezer is looking a little empty, now is the time to restock on premium steaks, juicy brats, and burgers just in time for peak grilling season. 🥩🍔🌭

Hoop 1 was filled with tomatoes a few weeks ago and they certainly are enjoying the warm days. Tunnel 2 was filled with tomatoes and peppers. If we can get a morning without wind , Tunnel 1 will get covered and more tomatoes.
Crews have been busy planting broccoli, cauliflower, summer squash, zucchini, cabbage and today we will plant snap peas and green beens. Its been a slow spring with the weather, but we are pushing hard to get it all in the ground.

To celebrate the change in weather, we phoned a farmer friend downstate who is a big strawberry grower and…we will have a very limited supply of strawberries at the Les Cheneaux Farmers and Artisans Market in Hessel tomorrow (Sunday) 10-2. They are $7.00/qt, first come first serve. We will also have fresh asparagus and rhubarb.

Yesterday while working Roscoe found this snake. We have never had a snake like this on farm before and Roscoe sure was curious. After a few photos this guy was safely relocated to some place away from Roscoes patrol area to carry on and enjoy mice and other rodents.
Roscoe makes sure the farm is safe and keeps as many birds, butterflies, other bugs,
frogs and seagulls safely away from
the farm!

Well the back garden doesn’t look like much today but soon it will be packed full of plants growing food for you and your families. Some nice little tomatoes already showing up. Roscoe keeping an eye on some plants I have been hardening off. Too much sun will hurt them. So a few hours in the sun, put a pop up tent over them and they still get the wind and cold to harden them.
I also started to work a new 450 ft c 50 ft section of garden for all the potatoes we will be growing this year. Some new varieties and a TON more of your favorites.

Nope. This is the middle of the driveway at the barn.

While we have seen presence of bears in the past we have never had any issues or conflicts. I hope this relationship continues and all the animals remain safe

The weather has finally started to cooperate and we will be getting our outside gardens planted. While many enjoy a Holiday weekend and vacation, Dan was preparing for this week of planting and other special projects.

The compost we use is from our own manure or garden waste. There isn’t anything scientific about it, but the results from our soil studies shows over the years that our nutrient depleted soils are on the right path for healthy plant growing. The results are the need for very little nutrient supplementation. Healthy plants taste better.

We are a few weeks behind from last season but we will be in planting overdrive to get everything in
