2024 was a year when the sow of faith and steady determination reaped peace and good fortune. After recent years peppered with challenges and uncertainty a breath of calm was truly savored. Whatever 2025 has in store, I respect that this too shall pass; But, I’m hopefully wiser and braver to life’s storms and to the faith in the sunny days that always follow.

Happy New Year!!!

In the February 2023 and August 2024 newsletter from An Average Jill, I shared two furniture refinishing projects that I completed for bedrooms in my home. Both pieces I acquired off the local BuyNothing Facebook group.
(You can check out the photos in my archive of newsletters at https://www.anaveragejill.com/blog/newsletters/

Last week, I stumbled upon these two beautiful pieces that were put out to the curb in my neighborhood. They totally work with the retro style of my home. Most likely sold as night stands, I’m considering reviving them into funky end tables.

First though, I have a 70s-style drum end table (another side-of-the-road find) that I intend to prepare this fall for a face lift. So, these beauties will need to wait in line 😉
Stay tuned ✅

No Farmers Market for me this week. I’ll be back in Litchfield next Saturday (6/8).

In the meantime, I’ll share some pics of my camping trip last weekend at Tolland State Forest in Otis Massachusetts. It’s one of our favorite places to camp. Like I shared in the May newsletter, I prefer to keep a simple campsite—it’s quick to set-up and break down, so I can spend more time enjoying nature 🌲🌳🍄‍🟫

An Average Story

An Average Jill granola is made in Connecticut under a Cottage Food License by An Average Jill. It was first introduced in the spring of 2019 at the Woodbury Earth Day Festival in Woodbury Connecticut. It’s sold exclusively at farmer’s markets and other events, mostly in northwest Connecticut.

Its company’s founder, Jill Roberts, left a 20-year career in accounting to pursue a life as an entrepreneur. Along with sharing her personal granola recipes, she produces a YouTube channel, “Hiking with an Average Jill,” and pursues a passion for writing and nature photography, which you can follow at anaveragejill.com. In February 2020, she teamed with Flanders Nature Center in Woodbury Connecticut to offer a series of guided hikes led by An Average Jill.

Why Average?

In her own words, “Sometimes I’m a superstar rockstar, and sometimes I struggle with the central vacuum hose; Collectively, it makes me average. Living an average life is about being my best, instead of trying to be the best.”
