We are a family farm and growers of amazing Cut Flowers, Christmas Trees, Greenhouse crops, Mums, Pumpkins, Melons and much more!

Syme Family Farm are growers of spring/summer/fall flowering plants, amazing specialty cut flowers and Christmas Trees. Farm fresh eggs are available year round from our large and diverse flock of very spoiled chickens. During our cut flower season our farm stand is open 6 days/week. We also offer our CSA Cut Flower Club on two pickup days with 4 and 8 week flower subscriptions available. Watermelons and Pumpkins are also grown and sold.

It’s just about time to plant our mums, but before we do that we need to assemble the mum field.
It is at the bottom of a hill so in years that we get heavy rains we have had field erosion under the landscape fabric.
To combat this we plant a cover crop in the field after mum season is over and after we fold up the fabric. In the spring we chop it but leave the root system in the field then relay the fabric. The root system helps hold the soil in place and minimizes erosion, washouts and gullies.

🌱A huge THANK YOU for an incredible spring greenhouse season!
We kicked it off with 5 sold-out Planter Workshops in late April and wrapped up this past weekend.
The weather in between has been a wild ride with temps ranging from 25 degrees up to 95 degrees and a day of rain every weekend!
We know you have many choices when it comes to where you purchase your spring plants. THANK YOU for valuing our plant quality, farming experience and local blooms!

🍉🍈Half of the Watermelon and 3/4 of the Cantaloupe were planted out into the fields recently.

🍉Seedless watermelon germination is tricky requiring both heat mats and heat lamps to get them started but we have had great success this year.
Watermelon Fun Fact: For every three seedless watermelon plants, you need one seeded watermelon plant for pollination.

🍈We’ve increased our Cantaloupe production and are aiming for an earlier harvest this year.

🙄Anything in the Cucurbit family can be challenging to grow, they are prone to both insect and soil-born disease issues as well as mice eating the seeds prior to germination. These are crops we constantly keep an eye on.

We can’t wait to bring you tons of melons this summer!
If you’ve never tried local melons, you are in for a sweet treat!

We are a month into our field planting and we wanted to share with you how the process begins.
This is how we make our field raised beds. We only use this machine three days a year but it is by far the most useful piece of equipment on the farm. It shapes the bed, lays the plastic mulch and lays the drip irrigation lines all at the same time!
The black plastic mulch has many benefits as it warms up the soil, reduces w**d pressure and conserves soil moisture. We use black for our upright crops of specialty cut flowers and we use white mulch plastic mulch for our low to the ground crops of watermelon and cantaloupe because it stays slightly cooler.
The planting process is moving along, we are planting at least 1000 seedlings a day and we are grateful for the 1.5” of rain over the weekend!
