He was happiest when working outside on his chicken farm. He was a through and through country boy who had a passion for hunting and fishing. When he was younger, he enjoyed c**n hunting with his Bluetick Coonhounds. Ricky was fondly known as Ricky Lynn, and he was an all-around natural athlete playing football and baseball in his younger years. Ricky attended Mineral Wells High School. He was awarded a football scholarship by Tarleton State University. He earned a B.S. in Agricultural Business from Tarleton State University. Ricky began working in the oil fields as a teenager and was an oil and gas man throughout his professional career. He was a history buff. He was known for his distinctive, gregarious, and hearty laugh. Ricky was a colorful character who lived life by his own rules until the end. He had a charming and jovial nature and knew how to spin a yarn. Ricky was a friend to all and always saw the best in people. He attended church at the First Church of the Nazarene in Mineral Wells ever since he was a small child and continued to attend throughout his life.

He is survived by his children, Miranda, Rowdy, and Shawnee Smith; his 6 grandchildren; his first wife and mother to his children, Martha Thomas; his 2nd wife, Patricia Smith, and his stepsons, Darrlle and B.J. Bullock; his current wife, Abby Smith, and his stepdaughter, Patricia Abarca. He is survived by his mother, Jo Smith, and his brothers, Alan and Darrell Smith.
