Never Forgetting January 12, 2010

On this day in 2010, at exactly 4:53 PM, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake tore through , claiming an estimated 220,000–316,000 lives and displacing 1.5 million people in moments of unimaginable terror. We pause to mourn every life lost, hold space for survivors carrying deep scars, seen and unseen, and honor the extraordinary resilience that has defined Haiti's people ever since.

Your endurance in rebuilding homes, communities, and hope against relentless odds continues to inspire the world. Yet the wound remains open. Today's pain intertwines with ongoing devastation: armed gangs controlling vast areas of Port-au-Prince and beyond, claiming thousands more lives through violence; over 1.3 million displaced, acute hunger gripping more than half the population; and a fragile political transition as the Transitional Presidential Council works toward general elections targeted for August and December 2026. The fear, insecurity, and hardship persist, and our hearts break for every Haitian enduring it.

We stand in unbreakable solidarity, grieving alongside you, amplifying your voices, and clinging to the vision of a secure, just, and thriving Haiti where past scars yield to lasting peace and opportunity.

We honor your courage, cherish every memory of the lost, and reaffirm: Haiti’s spirit endures. Nou Pap Janm Bliye πŸ‡πŸ‡Ή

The kompa world has lost one of its enduring voices. DieudonnΓ© Larose, a cornerstone of Haitian popular music for over five decades, has died.

Born in Cabaret, Haiti, Larose grew up immersed in rhythm and melody, eventually becoming a defining figure in the golden era of kompa. His smooth, soulful vocals and powerful stage presence made him a standout in legendary groups including Shoogar Combo, DP Express, and especially Missile 727, where he helped bring Haitian music to international stages, particularly through the vibrant Haitian community in Montreal.

Larose’s catalogue is filled with timeless tracks β€” songs like β€œMandela”, β€œAccident”, β€œTi Fi” and many more that became staples at parties, weddings, and family gatherings across the diaspora. His music blended deep Haitian roots with Afro-Caribbean energy, creating a sound that felt both nostalgic and timeless.

Beyond his recordings, DieudonnΓ© was known for his humility, generosity, and love for the culture that shaped him. He remained a beloved figure for generations of fans who grew up singing his lyrics and dancing to his melodies.

L’Union Suite extends our deepest condolences to his family, friends, bandmates, and every listener whose heart he touched through his voice.
Rest in power, Maestro. Your music will live forever in the soul of Ayiti. πŸ™πŸΎπŸ•ŠοΈ

Happy New Year 2026!!
Happy Haitian Independence Day! πŸ‡πŸ‡ΉπŸ”₯

Today, we proudly commemorate the 222nd anniversary of Haiti’s independence, the revolutionary triumph that gave birth to the world’s first Black-led republic, the first independent nation in the Caribbean, and only the second independent state in the entire Western Hemisphere after the United States. That victory was no ordinary feat; it shattered the chains of slavery, defied the most powerful empires of the time, and forever rewrote what was possible for oppressed people everywhere.

In 2026, as we wave flags and raise our voices in celebration, we also hold space for the heavy truth: Haiti is still fighting against instability, injustice, and systemic neglect. But history has taught us that our struggles have never defined the Haitian people; we are defined by how we rise above them.

This anniversary is both a powerful reminder and a renewed call to action.
Let the unbreakable spirit of our ancestors, Dessalines, Louverture, and countless others, ignite something fierce in us today.

Let it fuel a fresh commitment to:
β€’ Unity across every divide
β€’ Collective healing and justice
β€’ Real investment in education, opportunity, and infrastructure
β€’ A Haiti that belongs to Haitians first

To every Haitian at home, in the diaspora, and in every corner of the globe:
You are the living continuation of this extraordinary legacy. The revolution is not finished; it lives in our choices, our solidarity, and our refusal to give up on Ayiti.

Here’s to a 2026 filled with courage, renewed hope, unbreakable unity, and meaningful progress for Haiti and all her children worldwide.
