Skull Creek Targhees

Skull Creek Targhees Skull Creek Targhees' goal for their sheep is an animal that combines production qualities with fine wool while thriving in range conditions.

Located in Eastern Montana, Skull Creek Targhees run registered Targhees along side a flock of commercial Targhees out on the Montana range. We are passionate about raising sheep that raise good lambs and shear an excellent fleece while running in range conditions with minimal input. The sheep are run on a ranch that is over a hundred years old and both myself, Kristin, and my husband, Cord, are fourth generation Montana ranchers.

The range lambs are looking good. This group started lambing on the 10th of May and when we worked them today, it looked like they were all lambed out. Happy for the recent rains that perked the grass up. Hopefully the lambs will do well on it.

Finally got some rain this last weekend so the yearling rams got to go out to their summer pasture. We'll codon test, micron, and loin eye scan them in the next ten days.

We put out chopped hay last night because the wind had finally died down. Had gusts over 50 mph and sustained winds over 30. Not ideal conditions for putting out chopped hay. When we put it out, this one ewe with twins decided it was ideal conditions to give her two lambs a snack in all of the chopped hay dust.

As a barn cat with seven years of experience around the lambing barn, Gary has learned not to try to walk through the drop band pens. He has mastered making the top of the stockades his catwalk.

When you're born premature, weigh 3.5 #, and your eyes aren't even fully open for the first day, but there's a will to live, colostrum, and a heater box, it doesn't take long to start running the barn.
Little lamb is on the gain and can hopefully go to the bum barn in a couple days. She can go and complain to management about the state of things in there then.

Worked the range lambers today so they could go to their lambing pasture. Looks like one was an over achiever and went a day early. Looking at the size and weight on some of these ewes, it looks like the early grass is agreeing with them.

A good mixture of light snow and zoomies. The lambs seem to be enjoying the pasture instead of the lambing lot.
