Had to tap into my creativity to get set up today.

The sun was shining bright - right onto all our produce. 😣

We moved things around a few times before I realized that putting an empty crate below raised each full crate out of the sun.☀️

One of the things I’ve come to learn about farmers markets is that you HAVE to learn to pivot. 👈🏼

Three weeks into the summer market season. Three Saturday markets and one Wednesday market in.

We’ve gotten to see some of our loyal customers, and meet some new ones. ♥️

Our stand got a glow-up and I really love it! 😍

We have new packaging, and it’s a big hit! It’s all recyclable, and some are even commercially compostable. 👏🏼

Sales are up from last year, which is encouraging and exciting!

We will be doing a total of 4 markets per week. Our third market starts on Sunday, and the 4th market starts in a couple weeks.

It’s going to be a busy summer, but we’re believing it also going to be really great!

One of our favorite parts of markets is trading with other vendors for foods we love.

Today, we got cheese curds from Murphy Farm, eggs from Murph’s, sourdough bagels from , and chocolate croissants (my unofficial name for them 😉) from .

We all love the food, but Emma’s a foodie, so she’s in her happy place right now.

When you’ve got to finish getting ready for market tomorrow and the power goes out…

Power should be back up by 8:30pm. 🤞🏼

Driving to market tomorrow will be interesting since one of the main roads we take to market is closed because the roadway is under water. 😬

But we WILL be at market tomorrow! Hope to see you there!

Scott’s main goal this week is to move Jumangi to the big greenhouse. We can’t get over the growth!

The poor tomato plants are still in their tiny 4x4 pots and most are a good 3’ tall. 😳😳🤯

We’ve been racing against time to get all the things done. We have to say no to some things in order to (try to) stay on track. If Opening Day of Dane County Market this last Saturday was any indication, we’re going to have an amazing (crazy-busy) summer season!

We’re def into the crazy-busy season - so if you don’t hear from us, we’re prob just busy doin’ garden stuff! (Or caught in over-productive cucumber vines 😆).

We have cucumbers!!

We haven’t gotten these in the ground yet (thank you Midwest Spring weather) but Scott has been harvesting from these transplants already. 😆

We will have a limited number of pints of these sweet, crisp, delicious (Farmer kids-approved and loved!) cocktail (snacking) cucumbers at this Saturday’s market for Dane County on the Square!! And of course, more in the future a these heavy-producers grow!

I’m not sure how long we can wait to get these into the ground! The plants are growing a lot faster than we anticipated!

So last year we started out using a cheaper potting mix. That turned into a BIG mistake! Nothing grew well and we lost a HUGE amount of time trying to get things re-established for the year.

Due to that failure we decided to experiment with different potting mixes throughout the year. Fortunately, after much trial and error, we landed on one that has far exceeded our wildest expectations!

We’re using a certified organic mix from Coast of Maine that we can purchase locally and it has REVOLUTIONIZED our garden starts and microgreens. We’ve experienced more than triple the growth rate on nearly everything and have lush green foliage to boot!

This video is a glimpse of what we’ve had for early season success. Most of these were seeded around Valentine’s Day.

Proof is in the picture. The right potting mix makes all the difference. We got this blend at Ace Hardware in Orfordville and they have since started stocking it for us. Go grab yourself some and get your season off right!
