Our salsa was so fresh, the jars were still warm to the touch yesterday at Tulsa State Fair!! Day 16 of State Fair season 🙌🏼. Come see us and try our State Fair flavors = Pickle Salsa and Fire Roasted (both in mild or hot)!!

As we hustle in the kitchen today (yes, on a Sunday, it’s our “harvest” season which means we work our ground when it’s time). There will be a season of rest to come after this. But for now, it’s time to work. And as I work here next to my boys, there’s so much to reflect upon from this past week.

My father in law recently lost his battle to cancer. And we laid him to rest this past week. As many of you know, cancer is not a new battle for our family. It’s how our journey with Sixth Day Snacks began. I (Dawn) needed a way to pay my cancer treatment bills, so I began selling my homemade salsa and other snacks … and before I knew it the bills were paid and we had a little family business on our hands! My father in law was a small business owner himself. It was touching to see several of his former employees at his funeral to pay their respects.

And these moments today as we work in the kitchen together are just a precious reminder of what God has restored in our family. All that time taken from us when I had to go into isolation for treatments… restored tenfold as we homeschool & now build and grow a business together. The uncertainty of how we were going to open our booth at the Fair this past Thursday while at his funeral … our friends showed up to run our booth for us so we could be at the funeral without worry.

Friends, this journey has been so much more than just getting bills paid and starting a business. It’s been about growing and sharing our faith. Cancer seems to touch every family in some way and that breaks our hearts. But then we find the beauty in the ashes as it connects us as a battle we can relate to each other in … and pray for each other.

I have a prayer journal with names of people we’ve met over the years who have/had health battles. If you’d like me to add your or a loved ones name to it, please let me know. It is our honor to be able to pray over those who need it ❤️.

Now, onto making all.the.salsa while the rest of the family is slinging it at the Tulsa State Fair!

Me: well, I went to make a coffee as soon as I got into work this morning and then realized as I was leaving at 8pm tonight, it never got made (nor drank) 🤦🏻‍♀️😆. So yeah, there’s that…

T minus TWO sleeps until Tulsa State Fair!!!

Our yearly meet-in-a-random-parking-lot-somewhere-between-Broken Arrow-and-OKC was late last night 😆 … also, some schoolwork happened in the dark while riding (kid was resourceful 👊🏼)! Thank you to all who have come to see us so far at Oklahoma State Fair!!! We’re just halfway through so plenty of time to still come see us … AISLE 1300!!!
