It's been over a year, since my first and last review on this page, but hey, better late than never! Anyways, after work today I felt like treating myself and what better way than treating myself to one of my favorite things. Ramen! Yes I'm reviewing ramen again. Takumi in Broken Arrow just opened up and I heard about it from my pastor. With it being 5 minutes from my work site today I had to try it out as it's my goal to try all the places that specialize in ramen in and around Tulsa.

When walking in I was greeted warmly by a waitress/hostess. I chose to sit at the sushi bar as I like to sit at when eating alone. I really appreciated at the start and throughout my visit the attentiveness of the waitresses and all the staff I encountered. My waitress was more than happy to talk about the menu and about the restaurant. Turns out it's a sister restaurant to Wafu (Another ramen joint I want to try) in Owasso, with some menu items inspired from there. While most things on the menu are originated from Japan there are even some Chinese options. The menu options are moderately priced with some suprisingly cheap options.

I started with a, "Brown sugar milk". A boba milk tea that doesn't use a dairy free powder alternative that their other menu item, "Bubble milk tea" uses. Which initially confused me until my waitress explained. However that was gladly my biggest complaint of my time there. It wasn't a bad drink, but I have had better at other places. I plan on next time asking for more brown sugar to enhance its sweetness. Overall the boba milk tea is a 6.5 out of 10 in rating. I also ordered the suprisingly cheap, but delicious spicy crab roll. It is 8 pieces, less then $6.00 and consisted of a rice and seaweed wrapped sushi densely filled with spicy crab meat and is topped with sesame seeds which I found amusing as most sushi places I have frequented don't top there sushi with sesame seeds, but it added a nice texture. Sushi is a 7.9. I'd put it almost up to Sumo's in Broken Arrow level, but of course I'm not a good judge as I've only had the spicy crab roll.

Next was the star of the show. I ordered the Takumi Tonkotsu ramen with chicken katsu. I requested no corn as I personally prefer no corn in my ramen most of the time as I think it's flavor overpowers the other toppings in the ramen. I started with the seaweed as I usually do and soaked it in the broth. I don't know what type they use, but the seaweed had a milder taste than most I tried, which I prefer. I then seperately, one at a time, try each ingridient. The noodles were well cooked with a nice chew and there was plenty of them. The broth while it is a simple pork broth is definitly one of the top 3 creamiest tonkotsus I've had. The egg was cooked perfectly with a nice mild soy taste to it. Usually the egg is my favorite part of ramen, but the chicken katsu was the star of the dish. Rarely have I seen chicken fried so well. It was really juicy, had a great crunch, and paired well with the broth. I was suprised that none of the crumbs came off the chicken and into the broth. It must be the way they battered it. This was the second time ever I had chicken katsu, the first time I had it on ramen, and my favorite time so far having it. If I had to complain about it my only complaint would be it wasn't sliced the best, thus presentation could be better, but that was my only issue. Kikurage (Mushroom strands) had a good chew. Some establishments end up cooking it wrong and end up giving it a rubbery taste, but Takumi pulled it off to where it tasted fine. The naruto (spiral fishcake) was good. It wasn't rubbery tasting like some places. The last two toppings, the green onion shreds and bamboo shoots suprised me. This is the only place I seen where the green onions are shredded instead of sliced. I think it was well thought of as it adds to the presentation. It also tastes good of course as usual in tonkotsu. The bamboo shoots were alot lighter than usual. I usually find them having a tannish brown coloring at other places. I also noticed it had a stronger taste. Overall this bowl gets a 8.7. It was an excellent dish.

Overall I really enjoyed Takumi. Excellent food, fair pricing for the quality your getting and very kind staff. I definitly will be back.
