Don’t forget me. I’m old now, but I will always love you.
That line hits because it’s exactly how senior dogs love us, steady and unchanged, even when their bodies slow down. The eyes are the same eyes that watched you leave for work and celebrated like you came back from war. The heart is the same heart that never learned how to love halfway.
Aging doesn’t make them less. It makes them softer. Quieter. More grateful for the little things. A gentle walk instead of a sprint. A warm spot near you. A hand on their head that says, “You’re still my baby.” And if you look close, you can see the whole story in their face, every year you got to share together.
So here’s the reminder: love them loud while they’re here. Take the slow walks, keep the routines, talk to them like they understand every word (because somehow they do). And when you catch yourself wishing time would stop, just sit with them for a minute. That’s where the real life is.
