🐝 Protecting our honeycomb, one frame at a time!

We freeze our honeycomb frames to help protect them from wax moths and their destructive larvae. It’s another important step in keeping our equipment in good shape and protecting the hard work our bees put in. 🍯

Not every day in beekeeping is about opening hives and working bees. 🐝

Sometimes it’s mowing, w**d eating, and keeping our yards cleaned up. Austin and I try to keep our bee yards maintained so we can safely access the hives and keep the entrances clear for the bees coming and going.

A little work on the ground goes a long way in keeping things running smoothly. 💪🐝

🐝 PART 2: CHECKING ON OUR NEW QUEENS! 👑

Three days after introducing our two artificially inseminated Spartan queens, we’re back checking on the colonies to see how things are going.

We used push-in cages to introduce these queens, and the workers were already chewing through the comb underneath the cages, working toward reaching their new queens.

Now we’re keeping an eye on the process as we work toward building our own queen-breeding program.

Beekeeping is a constant learning process, and we’re bringing y’all along for the ride!

🐝 WOULD YOU PAY $400 FOR A QUEEN BEE? 👑

Today, Austin and I are unboxing TWO artificially inseminated Spartan queen bees, valued at around $400 EACH!

That’s roughly $800 in queens, and we’re bringing them in for a bigger purpose: building our breeder stock so we can start raising queens of our own to offer to other beekeepers.

In this video, we’re walking y’all through the unboxing process, taking a closer look at these queens, and showing how we’re introducing them into their new hives.

There’s a whole lot more that goes into beekeeping than just pulling honey out of a hive. Genetics, queen selection, and building strong colonies are a big part of the picture, too.

Caught this bald eagle on the side of the road this morning, absolutely CHOWING DOWN on a dead hog. 😂

Not exactly the breakfast I had in mind, but hey… nature’s nature.

Pretty damn cool to see one this close. 🇺🇸🦅

Unfortunately, tomorrow’s Butterfly Festival has been canceled due to the weather and has been rescheduled for October 24th.

Our next event We will be at the opening of the Jasper farmers market Saturday, October 10
