News Release: The Brookings Human Rights Commission will host the seventh annual Brookings Juneteenth Celebration on Friday, June 19, at Pioneer Park in Brookings from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

All community members – inclusive of race, ethnicity and all other identities – are welcome at the Brookings Juneteenth Celebration. There is no cost to attend and registration is not required. Pioneer Park is located near the intersection of Sixth Street and First Avenue.

The event will feature:
• live music, DJ and dancing
• educational programming
• kids’ activities
• lawn games
• food for purchase

The annual Juneteenth event commemorates the important U.S. milestone of the emancipation of enslaved Black people from slavery, which occurred on June 19, 1865. Declared a federal holiday in 2021, Juneteenth has become a symbol of freedom marked by various celebrations in communities nationwide.

The summer farmer’s market season has officially come to an end! Thank you to every single person who has supported us this summer, and a special thanks to those who come out every single week! We can’t wait until next year! 🙌🥞💕
