This post may be a little long, but this is a story that deserves to be told.
On November 3, 2023, Gotham (Up and Out of Sight) suffered a devastating break to his upper front left leg. Because of where the fracture was located, surgery was not an option. The prognosis was heartbreaking and the odds were not in his favor.
But from the very beginning, Gotham showed us he wanted to beat these odds. He showed us he wanted to fight. He remained calm and quiet while our team worked tirelessly to stabilize him and trusted us through every hard day for the four long months he was in a cast. His owner, Natalie, Dr. Dori Portman of Carter Veterinary Services, Jesseca Holloway, and the entire Evermore Farm crew worked to give him every chance to recover.
And somehow, Gotham has exceeded every expectation. Gotham slowly became pasture sound and is now back to light flat riding.
Fast forward to today, 30 months after this chapter began, Gotham won both the War Horse-Over 50 Races, and the War Horse-Winnings over $100,000, In Hand Classes at the New Vocations Benefit All Thoroughbred Show. He has also added Dressage to his resume with a 3rd place finish in USDF Dressage Intro Level Test C.
Today there were tears, smiles, and so much gratitude for a horse who never quit fighting and for every person who helped him get to this moment.
