Many people don't vaccinate their livestock for rabies. It's a relatively rare disease, and the vaccine is significantly more expensive than CD&T (which I consider the bare minimum vaccination for sheep).
I do, because of the potential implications not just in terms of livestock fatalities, but also to human health and safety.
Thankfully incidents like this one are few and far between, but they're good to be aware of when weighing your options.
Local health departments in North Carolina have evaluated hundreds of people for rabies after they interacted with baby goats that were part of a mobile petting zoo, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services.
