Summer may be over, but we can still smell the freshly baked bialys, babkas and knishes from our time with Trybal Gatherings . In what has become an annual tradition, we went back to summer camp this August to get hands-on with folks from around the country, sharing in the wisdom of the Ashkenazi kitchen.

Not pictured: the pickle lemonade cocktails we served at sunset, which pretty much changed our lives forever. More on shtetl mixology to come!

In case you missed it! The latest episode of Meet Me at the Deli features cookbook author extraordinaire Leah Koenig ! Her latest release gave us an excuse to tackle topics like mandelbrot vs biscotti, plum supremacy and menus for Yom Kippur break fast.

Leah has been a friend and collaborator for well over a decade now so this was a pure delight. She even interviewed us at The Gefilte Manifesto launch event in 2016!

Ten years of The Gefilte Manifesto! Happy anniversary of publication week!

Our tour with the book brought us to inspiring restaurants, museums, homes and more across the country and the world. What a wild time it was to connect with so many people who understood our mission of revitalizing and reimagining Ashkenazi cuisine.

The Gefilte Manifesto was our exploration of our culinary heritage, our love letter to Yiddish cuisine, our corrective for some of the ways our foods had been watered down through the years. What a joy it was to put this book out, to see friends and strangers cooking recipes, to know there were people out there who cared about Jeffrey’s thoughts on goose fat and Liz’s musings on hamantaschen.

The book still feels as modern and relevant now as ever. Thanks to our amazing editorial, design, and photography team. Brynn Clarke Lauren Volo mariannavelasquez

High in the Sour Cream Sierras, we had a blast at the 4th Annual Borscht Belt Festival. For us, this region of upstate NY is more than a place where our ancestors vacationed and stand up comedy bloomed. It’s a place where Ashkenazi - American cuisine became emboldened, encouraged by the 3 epic meals a day in hotel dining halls. Kosher style French dishes, cottage cheese and a melon, endless bowls of bouillon with kreplach, of course.
