Added a tiny house that is almost finished inside, fruit and companion trees ready to be planted in a couple weeks, rain catchment getting put in place and just got a load of seeds for the gardens. Been such a busy month here at Humble Hill and we wouldn’t want it any other way. Always move forward and be mindful of the energy you put forth. Much love from our family to yours and happy almost spring!

Using this mild weather to start getting my garden tilled up! I built a little bench for the center that will be surrounded by pollinator friendly flowers and plants the 9 plots surrounding the center like rays and then 9 more outside of those. I love the round design for a garden because it looks beautiful, is more natural and I feel like it makes better use of the space. I’ll continue to post as it comes along but it’s a process since I’m tilling everything by hand tools but it feels so good to get mud on my hands!

This is a fun winter project or ā€œgarden experimentā€ if you have kids that is crazy easy and a fun way to scratch the garden itch when there is ice on the ground. I know our chickens will appreciate the sprouts and I will too

Sprout lentils in a jar! In the midst of winter, it’s a fun way to ā€œgardenā€ inside, and any time of year, it’s an easy, great way to grow some fresh food of your own in just a few days. (You can let kids do it, too.) How to Sprout Lentils in a Jar: 1/2...Read More

I know we haven’t posted in a while, we have been working hard on our newest project. It has been a ton of work with Rachel and I using mostly hand saws and lots of determination! Yesterday we had her mom’s church drive all the way from North Carolina to put on shingles and install a heater, they were wonderful and we can’t thank them enough for being a part of it all! We are so close to the finish line now and we will share more pics of the inside once we have it finished ā¤ļøšŸ’›šŸ’š

We have our first IBC tote for water storage and a nice pile of slabs from the local Amish sawmill and we’re ready to start building our first Humble barn. It will be big enough to park our camper in for winter and who knows what animals may call it home in the future!

We have a motto of sorts here at H3 and that is we do what we can with what we have. We need hay for our critters and what we have to make that hay is a small 20ā€ push mower, a rake, a plastic tote and some twine. We cut the field by hand, we rake it by hand and we collect it into a tote and stomp it down then ā€œbaleā€ it with the twine. There are plenty of homestead pages and YouTube pages that make it look beautiful and easy but the reality here is that it is hard and it is a lot of work and we often have blisters at the end of the day but I’ve never felt so proud and good about what I’ve accomplished every day like I do now. This life is not glamorous or romantic or easy at all but damn is it fulfilling.
