Sugar Hill Sweetwater Shrimp Farm

Sugar Hill Sweetwater Shrimp Farm Our farm has been in operation since 1908 started my my grandfater and continued by my father and after his retirement by me. Contact us for harvest days.

We transitioned away from the traditional growing of to***co and began growing freshwater shrimp in 2006. We grow by organic methods, large to colossal sized prawns in spring fed ponds . No antibiotics or chemicals are used. Our preferred method of sales is directly from the ponds on harvest days, held during September. Theres no way to get delicious sweet shrimp any fresher than right from the nets on harvest days!

We had a great harvest yesterday and iced down around 200 lbs of prawns. After the end of the day I had to have a taste of my prawns to see how my experiment turned out and they were spectacular. Perfect texture and sweet taste, they exceeded expectations . A natural diet is the only way to go. We'll be selling them fresh heads on today and after that they'll be deheaded and packed in ice. Come by and treat yourself to a great seafood experience that's organic and sustainable.

Big change of plans!! Due to the expected heavy rains expected for the rest of this week i'm pulling the plug on the shrimp pond this morning. Pass this along to anyone you know who might be interested in getting some.

I've set the harvest date. I'm pulling the plug on the shrimp pond Sat Oct 3rd and will have shrimp ready for sale by early afternoon. Contact me to place your order if you want to be assured of getting some as I only stocked one pond this yr.

Its almost time! As the weather cools we're watching the water temps and will let the shrimp keep growing as long as its safe. We'll be announcing the harvest date soon so stay tuned.

The phone calls have started asking when harvest will be this year so heres the scoop. Due to high feeding costs, higher electricity costs, and a generally anemic local economy we made the decision to sit this year out. The price we'd have to ask in order to make a fair profit would have been higher than many would be willing to pay, and since we can't eat them all we decided to wait and see what another year brings. The Sansoucy winery Shrimp and Wine festival carries on with ocean shrimp since our freshwater prawns aren't available and we hope for a good turnout there for a great day of fine wines, food and music.

It's almost harvest day once again. The samples we've netted have been considerably larger than usual, due to earlier stocking and fewer shrimp stocked, so we should have some very nice prawns on harvest day. We'll only be harvesting one pond this year so supply will be very limited compared to years past. Harvest day this year will be Sept 28th and prawns should be available by around 1pm.

Please let us know if you've seen our Great Dane, "Blue". Blue's been missing from the Sugar Hill area since early Tuesday morning. He's black with a bit of grey around his muzzle, wearing a brown leather collar but doesn't have a name tag on it. He's a gentle giant (clumsy too) and we want to get him back home where he belongs. If you've seen him or know where he is please call me @ 609-5375. Thank you!
