🧠 Did you know? Great Pyrenees don’t just follow commands — they think for themselves. 🔥🐾
Unlike many breeds trained to obey instantly, Pyrs were bred to make judgment calls on their own, especially when guarding livestock. If something seems off, they’ll react before you even notice.
This means they may not always “listen” like other dogs, but it’s not stubbornness — it’s confidence, intelligence, and instinct.
They’re not just pets. They’re partners. Trust their judgment, and they’ll never let you down.

“Maine has established programs, such as the Farmers Drought Relief Fund, to support farmers through dry summers like this one but they need to be robustly funded and effectively implemented to have real impact,” said MFT Policy & Research Director Shelley Megquier in a recent article in the Maine Morning Star ( https://mainemorningstar.com/2025/09/22/crispy-blueberries-flash-drought-maine-farmers-seek-support-with-extreme-growing-conditions/ ) about how Maine’s wild blueberries have been hit hard by the drought and what resources Maine farmers need to stay viable and resilient in the face of increasingly unpredictable weather.

Even with the rain some parts of the state are seeing today, six counties in Maine are now classified as experiencing Extreme Drought (D3), and coastal counties from Washington to Lincoln have been in Severe Drought (D2) for 5 weeks. Many farmers across the state are experiencing the impacts, from hay shortages and crop losses to dry wells. If you’re a farmer in a D2 or D3 designated county, be sure to reach out to your local FSA office to report any drought-related losses (even small losses matter & help trigger federal disaster designations) and find out which federal relief programs are available to you – and consider applying to the Maine DACF’s Farmer Drought Relief Program for long-term investments in water management and irrigation (next round expected in late 2025).
