Monticello is White County’s first official Tree City USA! So with Earth Day and Arbor Day both less that a week away, the Monticello Tree Board and the Parks Department celebrated with a very interesting program of public information as well as a tree planting today. Great fun …. And always good to see young people discovering the wonders of nature.

We love beekeeping… especially in the spring when there is so much potential in every hive! These new queens will soon be introduced to their homes in the Springboro Tree Farms apiary. Each box contains one queen and three or four attendant bees.

Well - it may not look like a "big deal" but it kinda is. In this picture, Rich, Mike and Joe are checking out the new Springboro Tree Farms "chiller". This is a game changer in that we can now chill and hold sap even as the temps rise on those warm early spring days. Before if the sap was running and the temperature was rising - we were cook'n...ready or not. We still watch the weather closely of course but we have a lot more flexibility with this new addition.

So what else is new? Out in the field we have a number of new lines, better organized line routes, a larger primary stainless storage tank and a new pump house built from the ground up. Meanwhile, inside the Sugar Shack, we have a better / higher capacity filter press to keep our final product crystal clear and clean.

As Rich likes to say, "there's always something to do - always something to learn - at Springboro Tree Farms." For more on "what's new" with our maple syrup operation check out https://springborotreefarms.com/sugaring/

Success!!!!

Batch number two is boiling today. About 500 gallons at 2% should yield about 10-11 gallons of syrup.

We finished up the tapping process for this season. Beautiful day in the woods. And yes - sometimes the Sugar Maple trees are easy to identify. This one actually came with a sign thanks to the Springboro Tree Farms Tree Trail.
