Going into a field, unannounced already is a bad idea because plenty of states allow folks to protect their livestock. How do they know they are cops or someone trying to steal or harm their animals? Killing a baby donkey for running up to them? Come on! I hope they sue the pants of these folks and they make some actual changes to their training cause this is beyond unacceptable.

I often see a lot of homesteaders hating on snakes, but I love them.

This little one is a DeKay’s Brown Snake (Storeria dekayi). They are big fans of slugs, so if you have a garden, these little guys are great to have around. They are also super chill most of the time.

It’s very important to learn to native flora and fauna in my opinion. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen snakes misidentified in various groups. I can understand not knowing every species, but identifying what is common and could be harmful is important. To me, seeing something thinking a rat snake is a copperhead is like someone saying highland cattle and jersey cattle look the same.

DeKay’s brown snake (Storeria dekayi) was hanging out in our driveway tonight. After hanging with it for a few mins we sent it on it’s way in the grass.
