We had a great day leading a session on swine with the Robertson County Livestock Club! Teaching about raising pigs, how to care for and break show pigs, and more. Loved their enthusiasm for trying their hand at showing the pigs!

Before you declare war on weeds…some of them might just help fight the seasonal allergies you’re battling!

If you’re like me, the allergy season has come on like a freight train this week.

Last year I made a healthy stockpile for my home apothecary. Mullein, purple dead nettle, and goldenrod tincture are my triple threat for dealing with these pesky allergies.

Amazing how many “weeds” turn out to have a purpose if you slow down long enough to learn them. 🌱

Did you know with a bag of potting soil, some pots, and lettuce seed you can have fresh lettuce all summer?!

For less than the cost of organic lettuce at the store ($3.49/bunch for red leaf this week), you can buy a pack of seeds or find some for free at your local library, you have enough to sow several pots…I stagger our planting so there’s always a new pot ready for the week!

Let’s make one last push to help Levi!! Diamond B was nominated for agriculturalist of the year and we’re biased…Levi works harder than many adults and has a true passion for farming, something you don’t see often in kids today. He lives and breathes for this piece of dirt….

His goals after high school are to attend a two year school, major in ag with a focus on livestock marketing or beef science. This is because he has several schools wanting him to shoot trap for them…why not take the experience and a scholarship if it’s offered?! He said he’ll come home after two years, enroll in the IBEW electrical apprenticeship, work on the road for a few years, and then take over the farming operation here with his little brother while working for himself as an electrician. That’s quite the game plan…

He manages this entire operation when Lance is gone and knows calving dates, vaccination plans, can operate any piece of machinery, and is pretty handy with a wrench or a welder.
