Here’s the view from the driver’s seat while planting soybeans. This field was corn last year and has cover crops on it. Just got done planting soybeans today. On to corn!

When the fog freezes on everything. Bitter cold, but pretty.

🌼 The pollinator field is really popping! The butterflies and bees are loving it. Check out all the different shades of purple the Purple Cone Flowers have! And there is an intense sweet smell when you walk by. 🥰

Early pollinators are looking good! And the bees love them!

With cover crops, it takes some time and effort to figure out what works for YOU and YOUR farm. It’s helpful to learn about what others are doing but just because it works for them doesn’t mean it will work for you. It’s going to take a few years and some experimenting to figure out what works at your latitude, with your soils, your termination method, and your cash crop/cover crop mix. Start small and try different things in different fields. It took some trial and error to figure out that our beans don’t like the cover crops laying on top of them, but our corn likes having a w**d mat. Just because it’s how someone else does it, doesn’t mean you have to. Farm your farm your way.

Out with the old, in with the new! We’re replacing the 50 year old leg system with a new vac system. The leg system was in need of major repairs and we chose the vac system so no one has to climb up the leg to do maintenance up at the top and it’s easier to reach the pipes when they eventually wear through. It was ready just in time for harvest and we really like it! Just a few finishing touches left to be complete.
