**Sunset Sessions is launching this evening at Moncus Park, and we’re proud to be the official Spirits Sponsor all summer long.** Every week brings a new musical theme, but one thing stays steady as a South Louisiana sunset — Jean Baptiste Rum behind the bar.

We’re supplying all the rum for two signature cocktails crafted just for this series:

🍋 **Lemon Bramble Royale** — Jean Baptiste Silver rum, orange liqueur, and Louisiana‑style lemonade
🥃 **Reposée Old Fashioned** — our aged Rested rum with pecan bitters and cane simple syrup

Grab a drink, enjoy the music, and wander the park — several local food trucks will be serving up the good stuff, too. It’s the perfect Lafayette evening: live music, good food, and handcrafted Louisiana rum as the sun goes down.

**See y’all at Sunset Sessions. Santé, Acadiana.**

We won Gold. Blind. At Tales of the Cocktail.

Last year, at the 2025 NOSC, a Gold Medal was awarded to Rested Rum Reposée. The judges had no idea who made it or how pretty the bottle is — it earned the medal on taste alone in a blind tasting before Imbibe Magazine's panel.
We are competing again next month against dozens of other world-class rums. How do you think we'll do?

Clémence Lasalle Freeman didn’t just make rum — she carried a whole community.

Tim & Brennan Westcott may have founded the modern-day, legal version of rum-making in their family, but they are hardly the first. Tim’s Great-Grandmother, Clémence LaSalle Freeman, had been making rum since her late teens on her dad’s farm. She spoke only Cajun French, worked as a Traiteur (Cajun faith healer), and went to Mass almost every day. When neighbors were sick, she treated them. When they were hungry, she fed them. During Prohibition, after she was widowed with seventeen children, she kept her family alive the only way she knew how — by distilling rum on the back porch of her little house in St. Martinville.
Her rum was so good that half the town bought from her. Once a year, the revenue agent would come through, arrest one of her children instead of her “out of respect,” and she’d walk to the parish jail and bail them out with more rum she’d made herself.

Craft. Grit. Faith. Community.
That’s the lineage behind every bottle we make today.

Jean Baptiste Spirits — a Cajun story still being written.

Wednesday night at the 2026 Rum Rendezvous for the Cabildo, I had the best volunteer a husband could ask for — my wife, Lana. She took a full day off from her real job to help me pour and share the deliciousness of Jean Baptiste rums… on our **37th wedding anniversary**, no less. That’s commitment, patience, and maybe just a little bit of love for her husband, Tim.

We met so many wonderful people, and the very kind words about our rums meant more than you know. Thank you for every compliment, every story, every “this tastes like home.” Louisiana has a way of reminding you why you do what you do.

The **Lemon Bramble Royale** cocktail we served was very popular. So many folks asked for the recipe that we’re attaching it to this post. It’s a Louisiana‑style lemonade cocktail made with our Silver Select rum, a little Chambord, and a whole lot of flavor.

To all our New Orleans friends who asked where to find us: **Jean Baptiste rums are available at Total Wine in Metairie.** Go grab a bottle and let the good times continue.

Here’s to heritage, good people, and the woman who makes every part of this journey better. Cheers, Lana.

On this day in 1803, the United States doubled in size with the Louisiana Purchase.

But long before the ink dried…

Along the Mississippi and down the Bayou Teche, our ancestors were already crafting rum and tafia from Louisiana sugarcane — a Cajun and Creole tradition rooted in French Louisiana.

The land changed hands.
The spirit never did.
