Tomorrow is Opening Day! 🦌 we wish all of the hunters good luck and happy hunting. If you get lucky you can feel free to bring your deer up to our shop where we have 24 hour deer drop off in the bone cooler, we will be there from 8-5 if you need help with anything. The only thing we ask is that you have a cut sheet on your deer(they are provided for you) and that your deer is tagged correctly with your license. Standard cut processing is $100 and to have a cape is $50. We have a great list of specialties to choose from snack sticks to jerky! 🦌 the address is 4101 Maple street, Brown City and the shop phone number is 810-346-2628

This year we are participating in the community pumpkin decorating contest! A fun way to support our town and give us a second of the day to enjoy the little things. All of the money goes to the Brown City Public Library, one penny = one vote!! You can either come visit us at muxlow meats to vote or head up to the library and vote there. We hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend! With this weekend being the official start to deer season we are happy to say we are taking them! With that being said we ask all of our customers that will be dropping deer off in the bone cooler that they are all tagged properly, with a fully completed cut sheet included! You can find cut sheets located in the bone cooler to the left of the door in a bag. There are writing utensils and string in there as well. Happy Hunting!!🦌

It's that time of year again....Deer Season! Opening Day is here! As a reminder Muxlow Meats is here in Brown City to take care of all your deer processing needs.

We are around to take in deer during the week from 8-5 and weekends we are here until noon on Saturday. If you need to drop off a deer at any other time we have a 24/7 refrigerated drop off area, just be sure to leave a name and phone number on the deer the pen and tags provided.

To answer a few questions and give a better description of purchasing meat in bulk direct from the farmer, you typically buy the meat by “hanging weight”.

There are a few terms used when buying meat this way and we want to break them down. These are also same terms used in the commercial industry.

Live Weight: is what the animal weighs before going to butcher. For our steers we like to have them around 1,400 lbs

Hanging weight: is the weight of the carcass after butchering. The hanging weight will be about 60-64% the live weight. The loss of weight comes because you have taken away a majority of bone, organs, and some fat. So, the live weight steer that weighed 1,400, now has a hanging weigh of 840 lb. The hanging weight is used for the calculation of your cost. Beef is sold by the pound of hanging weight and the butcher charges his processing fee also on the hanging weight. The hanging weight is not your total take home weight.

Finished cut weight: is the weight of the meat you are taking home. This amount will be about 35% less than the hanging weight. Bone-In vs. Boneless of steaks and roast, and removal of additional bones and fat are a couple reasons for this. In doing so, you will lose a few pounds of water weight (but gain tons of flavor). I would like to add that regardless if you chose all your meat to be bone-in or boneless, the actual amount of edible meat is still the same. From the 840 lbs hanging weight, your actual take home amount is about 550 lbs.

The numbers used above are estimates . If you get a quarter, just divide all numbers by 4. The take home beef will be about 136 lbs.

The reason we are getting booked in July and August, is to help out our local fairs! We are supporting the kids with trying to having availability to process animals!
