🌿Chopping them down again. Every couple of years, my eucalyptus trees get chopped all the way back down. All of the eucalyptus I grow was started from seed and is now 4–6 years old. Once they become too tall to harvest comfortably, it’s time for a major cutback.
I started coppicing them when they were about 2 years old and have continued the process every couple of years since. Some of these varieties can reach heights of 70 feet, so keeping them manageable is a must!
I cut them down to about 2 feet tall, and within just a few weeks, fresh new shoots begin emerging from the remaining trunk. By fall, they’ll be producing beautiful harvestable stems again.
One thing I’ve learned over the years: once eucalyptus is well established, it’s incredibly resilient and surprisingly hard to kill. 🌿💚
