Things are growing now! We’ll have fresh produce at the Barker’s Island Farmers’ Market Saturday, May 30, 8:45-noon. Lots of asparagus! Spinach, baby Bok Choi, many veggie plants, maple syrup, jam. We’re on the fast track to get things planted while also picking the things that grow quickly and need attention. Busy days! Better get going here. See you at the market!

We’re trying around here, but Holy Smokes! it’s been so darn cold! The little plants sit there until we have a warm sunny day when they burst into exponential growth. Then it cools down and they’re back to a standstill. As long as we can avoid a freeze, we’ll just wait it out. The week ahead looks like we’ll be able to seriously tackle tomatoes and peppers. Which means, we’re bringing the bulk of the market plants to Barker’s Island farmers’ market tomorrow, Saturday, May 23, 8:45-noon. Stop by to get your garden plants while there’s still a good selection.
We’ll also have cucumber, zucchini and some other vine-y plants. We’ve got a little asparagus (also got held up by cold weather this week), maple syrup and jam. Might rain, might not….. we’ll pack an assortment of outdoor gear and farmer on at the market. See you there!

Barker’s Island Farmers’ Market opens for the 2026 season Saturday, May 16, 8:45-noon. We’ll be there with tomato, pepper and herb plants, Maple Syrup, fruit and pepper jam and jelly, BRF Hot Sauce, and some of Josh’s (Dumke Designs) gorgeous woodworking pieces.
Meanwhile on the farm, it’s planting time! Something always seems to come up and we’ve run into an obstacle working up the area planned for cucumbers. Can you see her? The Kildeers tend to pick locations right out in the open and work hard to protect their nests. So, cucumbers have been moved to another field until the little family leaves home. Farming requires a lot of readjusting but also a lot of beauty and joy. We cherish it all. And, we look forward to seeing you tomorrow at the market!❤️🌱

Doing the Greenhouse Shuffle these days making room for incoming, taking out flats ready for planting in the tunnels. Next round are lots of flats of melons, cucumbers and squash coming out of the germination area into the greenhouse to grow while we wait for it to actually warm up around here. Yikes, it’s been chilly!

Busy weekend getting plastic on tunnels that needed repairs after last year’s storms. Kids pitched in and worked like pros pulling plastic, snapping in wiggle wire and installing ropes. Final touch was prepping beds ready for planting. Thank you!

Last boil of the 2026 Maple Syrup Season. Empty tanks and mostly empty tanks with sap held in good shape by chunks of sap ice and a lot of cold weather. Until today! So strange tending the fire in 80 degree weather. My little spot in the sun was like a beach day without the beach and also while still “working”.
