What a great day taking the Bernice II to Revolution on the River in Darien yesterday!

The rain put a damper on things, but it was awesome to share her story with everyone there!

We also got to take her through the Altamaha to Woods cut and Generals cut on high tide, a shrimp boat going through there is something you don’t see every day!

Since Georgia-Florida is in Atlanta this year, I figured we would hate all of other the teams equally!

This is the tug boat Inca built by Ed Royall, sister boat to Bernice II

1930s boat with Whittles warehouse in the background. One of the early blessing of the fleets.

The original Bernice with Pirates of the Spanish Main aboard. This boat was lost during WWII. The same windows are now in the Bernice II.

The first generation of Cross fishermen from Brunswick, Mr. Cross was a Portuguese man who immigrated here to shrimp fish. His family is still commercial fishing today.

The Miller Boys, Brunswick Blessing of the Fleet 1980s

The Walter and Patty, you can see Ace Hardware and the City Hall in the background before the port warehouse blocked it!

Boats docked at modern day Torras Marina Michael Torras. I think they called it K street dock.

Miss Rhonda 2 when she was first built before she was rigged out. Bubba Bennett’s boat the Miss Tara towing her.

This one was quite a few years earlier. The Romie in the corner. I’m assuming she was owned by the Whortons and named after Romie Whorton! This was probably WWII era somewhere on the Brunswick Waterfront.

The three girls owned by Captain Bubba Bennett, originally built by Paul Morrira. She caught many many many Shrimp in her day!

The Miss Martin, which I’ve posted before. This is the railway that is now where Eckerd Seafood is right by City Market Dock. This is the railway where the Bernice II, Cobia, and many other boats were built by Captain Ed Royall.

The City Market Dock in the late 1980s. Still looks about the same to this day. Too bad the fleet doesn’t look the same!

Since I ran out of existing boats to post every day, I will start posting old boats and photos from the Brunswick once a week. These are all from different time periods between the 1940s and 1990s. I don’t know as much about all of these but if anyone has anything of add please comment! Most of these photos came from Mr. Johnny Cross!

The Seahorse was built on the City Market Dock property, not sure what ever happened to her.

Miss Suzanne in Brunswick, owned my Johnny Cross Sr. at this time!

Miss Martin which I believe was later the Miss Suzann!

The Morning Star owned by Captain Robert Earl Knight. I think this boat is still around up in North Carolina.

The Cobia, which is one of the sister boats to the Bernice II. She was built a few years after the Bernice and was dismantled in the early 2000s.
