Admittedly, I’m a bit of a procrastinator. So what could possibly go wrong while preparing for an extended trip away from the farm?

I spent a lot of time organizing everything that needed to be covered while I’m away…

Horses — check
Dogs — check
Cats and chickens — check
Addison to horse show — check
Remaining mare to foal — check

I finished most of my packing late last night (or maybe early this morning 😅) and set my alarm for 5:00 AM to finish the last few things on my list.

Rafi’s water broke at 5:05.

She foaled by 5:30… a mere three hours before my airport ride was scheduled to pick me up.

Luckily, everyone was on board with getting things done in quick fashion. Placenta passed quickly without issue, milk bar was found immediately, and plenty of meconium was passed. So before 8:00 AM I got to strip and re-bed the stall, dip the navel, inspect the placenta, and handle all of the usual foaling mare tasks.

Huge thank you to my amazing friend and vet for taking Addison to school so I could shower and get ready for 16 hours of travel. My fellow travelers probably appreciate that too!

This is Reso’s second time with a rider on his back. The video might seem a little boring but we love it for that very reason! He isn’t phased by the tack, the rider, or the dogs. They were busy jumping around, chasing each other, and knocking down poles. Uncomplicated and ready to go! Finish his start your way or leave him here for with Anne Gielis for a solid foundation. Aww! I uploaded video of Reso’s second time with a rider and found this little gem! I never would have guessed this guy would grow to be so big! He’s 17.2 now. He’s been an uncomplicated start and ready for his next chapter! PM for details!

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Sovereign Farm.

Today we celebrate the incredible mares that raise the next generation with patience, protection, and unconditional care. From the quiet moments in the pasture to the long nights during foaling season, motherhood on the farm is something special to witness.

We are also thankful for all of the amazing human moms, horse moms, and animal lovers that follow along with our journey and support these horses every step of the way. Wishing you a beautiful day filled with love, happiness, and maybe a little time spent in the barn.

This gorgeous hunk is Pharo SF.

He is by the elite Trakehner stallion EH Ivanhoe and out of our own Poppy, by EH Buddenbrock.

Ivanhoe is an important son of Millenium and is approved for breeding in multiple registries, including Hanoverian.

Pharo has already captured our hearts with both his stunning looks and one of the friendliest personalities around. He’s confident, curious, and always the first to come say hello.

We truly believe this special boy has an exceptional future in dressage ahead of him.

It’s irrigation day today at Sovereign Farm!

We irrigate twice a month through the summer to keep our pastures green here in the middle of the Arizona desert. It’s a lot of work moving water around, opening and closing ports, and keeping an eye on everything… but days like today make it a little extra special.

While changing water this morning, I spotted the cutest little baby burrowing owl peeking out nearby. Thank goodness for zoom cameras.

One of my favorite things about farm life is that even the routine chores come with little surprises and adorable moments like this.
