Moss Brook Show Lambs

Moss Brook Show Lambs We run a small operation of around 35 cross ewes and are proud to offer competitive sheep for the ring that can come home and work for production as well.

I've been putting off this post because it's hard to express the many changes and emotions that come with it. For over a decade, Moss Brook Show Lambs has been working towards a goal of providing quality show lambs and breeding replacements across the country at affordable prices. The whole reason this dream was ever acted in on was to help others elevate their fair projects and go on to enhance other folks’ breeding programs. We’ve spent literally thousands of hours in research and development of our breeding program to fit those goals. We’ve had the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. I’m sure anyone who has owned livestock for more than a few minutes could understand. But now it’s time for a change. Change is never easy and can bring a lot of doubts and sadness when I dwell on all the effort and support from my “tribe”, but alas, the hard decisions have been cast.

As you all may be aware, we have been operating off of a centennial family farm in Upshur County, WV since our inception. It’s been such an honor to add another chapter to the long standing history of this farm, but as goals and visions for the farm shift, the time has come to dissolve the club lamb flock. I’m SO THANKFUL for all the memories and friendships and love and I will cherish it all forever!!

In every change, there is beauty.

The beauty for a new era for the flock from Moss Brook has already begun at Field of Dreams, PA.

Stephanie Sgambati and her crew have welcomed the entire flock into their farm as they continue to grow and flourish in their agricultural endeavors. We have collaborated to ensure a successful breeding and lambing season, but the love and energy she shows for our beautiful and hardworking mamas has been unmatched! I am SO thankful for her and all the work she has put in to make sure the Moss Brook flock has been seemlessly integreted into the visions of her farm. In this way, the excitement for the future far surpasses the sadness of missing past seasons.

The beauty of the new era means my hardworking parents and older sister have an opportunity to focus on their Kerry Hill flock, a dream of my mother’s for so long. It means increasing crop production for the community with a large scale biochar operation piloted entirely by my creative and hardworking father. It’s an opportunity to focus on wildlife habitat restoration on a unique farm with many inhabiting threatened and endangered species. There’s probably so much more, but even 1 of these reasons would be grand enough to be thankful for the future.

So with the end of Moss Brook Showlambs, please join me in being thankful for all new beginnings at Moss Hill Farm and Field of Dreams, PA.

One last Ho-ray this weekend as we solidify the “Flock merger”!! Field of Dreams Farm Lamb Sale - Open Barn - White Board Sale

We hand picked these selections for your viewing and bidding pleasure this weekend. It’s a big deal! Stephanie’s FIRST big open barn and a chance to talk sheep. Please join us in person if your schedule allows. We’d love to see you all there.

Over the next few weeks, we will be working on advertising a very exciting group of Feb-March Born babies as well so the page will stay “open” for the time being

This isn’t “goodbye” just a “see ya later” to our club lamb family. We will be back when the time is right. Just might be under a new name and location. 😉🐑

God Bless and “Sheep on”!

5 days ago we posted this photo. These girls have all made it to the other side of lambing and are now mothering! See below for results: NONE of is would’ve guessed 3rd place but that’s sheep for ya. Always throwing you for a loop.

Middle #1: single boy
Far right #2: twin boys
Blue ewe second from left #3: triplet blue boys
Far left: #4: twins; boy/girl
***not pictured here, but decided to come early from the second group due to the storm—one single ewe and twin blues; boy/girl **** (second photo for twin mama credit—single ewe mama photo to come)
Second from right #5: HUGE twin girls, sadly lost the second one but for a first time mama, one 20lb+ baby is enough!!

All in all we’re pretty proud of all our girls 🥹 it’s been a hectic couple of days but we’re thankful to have our mamas and babies here with us!

Slow start to lambing this year. We lost our New Years baby, but things are warming up now. So far ALL GIRLS. 🎀

Last pic: taking bets now. Big storm coming tonight. Which one of these mamas is next?

Happy New Year our friends and family! We pray you all have many enriching moments of 2023 to cherish as we say hello to 2024! ✨🎆🎁

It was almost symbolic as I spent the weekend giving the”baby room” a little freshen up before lambing begins. All the buckets, feed troughs, hay racks and lambing jugs are cleaned and ready to go. Mamas in group 1 evaluated and moved to their mama space. We even did a trial run in the jugs so everyone has clear understanding of the expectations for the real deal. (🙏😂)

2024 lambs comuny soon!

A progression of photos from the weekend at Moss Brook! Disclaimer: long post!

Mikenze here, I’m doing some soul searching right now and not keeping up with all the progress on the farm is really weighing on me. There are so many cool things going on in this operation and I want you all to be a part of the farm progression. See the decisions we make for the betterment of our customers is so important. I’m going to make a strong effort to holding myself accountable for bringing you all into our operation through the socials as much as possible as we move into this lambing season and beyond! And if that’s not your style, just shoot us a message and we’ll set up a time to have you swing by in person. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

For now, enjoy some photos of this weekend and our fall season prep. 🐑🍂

I’ve been losing sleep over offering these ladies to the public.

Thoughts to myself: “Should we keep them? 🤔 they check all of our boxes!”
✅ structurally sound
✅show appeal
✅maternal genetics
✅built like their daddy 😍
✨sweet little girls who love attention already✨

……more thoughts to myself

“Mikenze, you can’t keep them all. Share these beauties with the world!”

I keep telling myself it’s a good thing when you don’t want to let them go. 😊

3 stellar ewe lambs for your consideration

Ewe 1 and 2: Southdown “advantage”? 😂 Mama is a registered Southdown and raised triplet ewe lambs for the 2022 and 2023 lambing seasons. Last year she had 1 girl in Texas who earned her showman multiple royalties including 2 Reserve Champions and 1 Grand Champion title. She also had a girl in MD who showed very successfully throughout her season and wrapped up her year in the final drive of her age group at NAILE.

Ewe 3: One of the ONLY ewe lambs from this maternal family I have ever offered to the public. Her grand dam is the source of more than 70% of our ewe flock today (hence why I feel I can offer this lady) she’s green as a gourd right now, but her bone, structure, and style will carry throughout as she grows. She’ll be straight 🔥 when she hits her stride.

All 3 ladies are sired by our exciting Buck purchase from last Summer. He is a product of Alpha Omega and Burch’s Livestock genetics. (“802” (Bullseye son) X Hannibal and Payback’s mom) (last 3 photos)

SERIOUS inquires only please. More photos + video for those who would like to consider adding one of these gems to your show string or flock!

Hauling can be arranged anywhere in the 🇺🇸

Had to make this 3-D to portray a SAMPLE of the attitude I’m getting from these ladies. 🤦‍♀️💁‍♀️👠🎀💅

We crossed the finish line for lambing yesterday! Although plans did not become our reality, I cannot say we ended this lambing season “on a low note”. After exhausting my skills I quickly realized, I am not alone! It was easy to know several great folks whom I’ve leaned on many times throughout the years and I was reminded of the many blessings in my life. Thanks to ALL who have always been there for us over the years. 💚🐑

Also—shout-out to Lukas for getting the mushy deformed lamb out in mostly 1 piece! And then going back to L&K to do more of the same!
