This big pretty guy deserves his own post.
This is Ruby. I just got him before Christmas. He’s a 10 month old Splash Barnevelder. He’s very dumb bless him, but very good to the girls and protects them from cars pulling into the driveway. Thank God because they might get hit 50 feet from our parking spots 🫠
I can’t wait to incubate and see what pretty babies he’s going to throw.
Chick season is coming.
Spring is just around the corner.

Ready to get this page back and rolling and planning on making a post a day to catch up.

My favorite little crock from the vintage shop in town. Beef liver. Raw local honey. Homemade dehydrated fruit leather. Homemade bread.

A good way to start the day 🐄🫐🍓🍞🍯

Still reaping the fruits of our labor 6 months later.
What a day of harvesting we had. I’ve never felt so proud, happy and angry at the same time!

From hatchery, to post office, to pasture to harvest to our table. My favorite meals are the ones cooked with our own birds.

We’re adding rabbits to our protein lineup and I feel so dang giddy about it I could faint!

I’m in a moment of goodbyes.

I said goodbye to all of my ducks and geese. Next month I say goodbye to the turkey trio - one of which I’ll be sad. I wished harvest on these guys for a very long time, and while I am excited to reap the reward of raising them, I’ve come to love them and appreciate their presence.

Over the last few years, I have grown in such a way that I no longer allow myself to have emotional attachment to any physical thing. It’s easy for me to let go. This life of motherhood and stewardship has hardened and softened me. I can do hard things. I can do hard things. I. Can. Do. Hard. Things.
This harvest will be emotionally taxing, but new hello’s are right around the corner. Good things are coming.

They always do.

Hard Goodbyes, Sweet Hello’s

The goats enjoyed a full summer with us, and we’re recently re-homed with a family member. Two things led to that choice, one hard to admit, one easier to make.
1- Gosh I loved my goats. So dang much. Goats were our first dream for livestock. Was it FOR me? No. Did it serve me? Bigger no.
2- We’ve been battling a dog killing our animals. More on that later. He started showing too much interest in the goats. Picking up dead birds and waterfowl through tears in the morning? I can do it. Having to either pick up or put down a goat from a dog injury? Couldn’t do it.

Blanche and Phoenix were lovingly taken in by a family member and join their herd.

We welcomed my “farm hand”, the super smart, super sweet, exceptionally hyper Millie. A Border Collie. We spent the summer learning that chickens are friends, not food. Hard lesson for Millie there. She’s growing every day, mentally and physically. She’s a good girl. Truly.

We also announced the new and most important addition to the homestead - Oliver Tyler! Our 6th son will be joining us in November 🤍

A New Beginning

The beginning of June welcomed us into our home. Delivered in two pieces, we were finally put together and ready to get rollin’!

We are so blessed with a new home, new furniture, a beautiful view and forest friends that pay us a morning visit 🤍

It’s been a while. An entire season.

A season of learning. Of failing. Of losing. Of winning. Of harvesting. I miss this page. A good friend has been unknowingly encouraging me to start back up on my page again. My life is worth documenting.

I’ll be making posts to reminisce on spring and summer. So many things have happened.

Stay tuned
