Well, it's that time of year again when the cattle face their less then vibrant future! Heading to the butcher in 5 days. It's been a good season dear Chuck and our beloved Sir Loin.... along with the other ground rounders!!! I'm amazed at how much I learn about caring for cattle each year and the fulfillment of it. Who knew??

Annual Farm Work Day. Once again,a successful fall farm work day. Wow!! An outstanding amount of work was accomplished by enthusiastic friends and family, who generously volunteered to spend a whole Saturday busting their backs to help us. We are humbled and grateful for their generous help and caring spirits. As is tradition( now)we started with brunch and ended with dinner and a bonfire. We awoke the next morning and looked out upon the work achieved and sighed with a fulfilled wide smile....... Thank You, Tom and Marilyn Taylor,John & Linda Banwell,Frank,Kelly,Jacob, and Sylas, Patrick Smith,Brandon Gordon. You are the best.

The cattle are growing and fattening up quite well. All their sustenance had come from grass only. Healthy, happy cattle. The happiness was fleeting as I explained their fate in the upcoming month. Sir Loin who is "rarely" sad, was the first to complain while"chuck"just stared at me in unbelief. I had to "ground"in the truth to their dismay. Butcher date is October 25th.
