Dearest Weathervane Farm Friends,

It is with a full range of emotions that we would like to announce the closing of Weathervane Farm. We’re honored and blessed to have served this community and made a home here in Buena Vista for the last 13 farming seasons. We truly could not have accomplished so much without the support of this community and all those who’ve labored alongside us and contributed to the success of Weathervane Farm.

You might think we were driven to be vegetable and flower producers at 8,000 ft and that it was a series of calculated decisions that brought us here to work the land and see rise to so much productivity. However, that would give us far too much credit. The story is nuanced and feels more like we just opened to the offering here and said,“Yes, we are willing,” and accepted all that entailed.

In the same way, as we close this chapter and embark on a new adventure for our family, there is a willingness in our hearts to explore new experiences and see ourselves in new ways. We’ve not arrived at this decision lightly. Years of trying to make the farm work for us, many months of untangling thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and truly holding the weight of our options and listening to where life is taking us have gone into this choice.

Excitement and gratitude exist in tandem with a feeling of great loss. We are lucky, like those before us, to observe the beauty and productivity of this place. Weathervane Farm has a life of its own and has provided nourishment for many minds, bodies, and souls. We hope others will take up the charge and continue this valuable work in new ways. There is no doubt of the abundant potential and support here. This place grows some of the finest vegetables and flowers on earth.

With full hearts,
Seth and Caitlin Roberts

We removed the cover from this high tunnel today so that the tulips for next spring can "feel" the winter a little more directly. It's fun to think about all the color we are planning for while the fields are white and cold. @ Weathervane Farm

I found myself riding a fire truck with Santa last night, didn't really plan it. Reminds me of how I found myself farming, didn't really plan it. But just like Santa, there's magic if you allow the story to play out and not squash it by thinking it's not true. Looking forward to what magic is in store for 2020.

Our fellow farmers market vendors will be at the Foodshed Alliance Winter Farmers Market tomorrow. Go out and support! Our carrots will be there with The Triangle Oasis while we are holed up at the computer working on the planning and dreaming for next season.

Week 17 - One more share next week, last week for the Buena Vista Farmers Market, 2 more weeks after Saturday for the Salida Farmers Market. Fall is here and we've had a heavy frost. Praying for some moisture to assist with the fire.

I remember the dark ages, the time before the barrel washer and the bed lifter. The fall harvest is so much better now. 4,000 lbs out of the ground and into the cooler yesterday.
